Unhappy RE: changing Fog light and City light !! HELP , thx

Hi all

after searching around on this cool forum, i got lots of info regarding " Fog and City light DIY for 2006 g35 coupe" however,i am still very confused about the preceedure . For changing the "City light" to LED, do i just simply change the wedge LED bulb instead of the OEM one? and for "Fog light", its all done by just changing a white H1 bulb? or there's extra steps i need to do involving connecting some wires ??

everyone please help me

thanks a lot

The swap out of the city light is just that...remove the stock OEM bulb, and put in the LED in its place...I believe the LED's can only go in one way to work...so test them first to make sure you installed them right before you re-install them.

The Fog light is the same procedure...plug and play...remove the stock bulb and re-install the new (H1) bulb of your choice.....just make sure the wattage/voltage is the same.

I did a DIY on replacing the Fog/High beam bulb for my 04 coupe...the procedure should be the same for your car as well..just H1 bulb instead of my H4

Good luck

Hi GR8TG35

thanks a lot for your helpful writing. it will save me tons of time from searching on forum. But how do i know what wattage/vottage of H1 bulb should i use ? Do you have any idea about whats the temp(k) for OEM HID?? cuz i am thinking to match my Fog light Temp (4500K or 6000K or 8000k)with it !!

will this one work fine for me ?? https://g35driver.com/forums/accesso...-products.html

big thanks for your help

The OEM HID bulb is usually 4100K...That will give you the most light and distance for safety. Many have changed them out to 5000K color match or 6000k with about a 20% loss of light. 8000 will have a nice look, but you will be sacrificing a lot of night distance and vision, especially in the rain.

That is your choice, I'm not here to preach safety to you.

The LED's should all work fine....remember, they are very sensitive to heat build up, so they may not last as long as an average compatible bulb.

The H1 OEM bulb is usually 3000K.....they are usually 55/65 watt. I would not suggest going with a higher wattage like 90/110....they will give you problems.

So, As long as you keep within the wattage range...any of the aftermarket bulbs will work fine. Keep in mind, you lose light output as well when you go with a higher Kelvin temp on Halogen bulbs as well.

I had MTEC 4350 bulbs which matched the OEM HID's pretty well, but did not light up the road for any distance....so they were show and not function.

I put in OSRAM Night vision bulbs....they have a light blue coating and match the OEM HID's very well once the HID's are up to normal temp.

I think any bulb in the 4100 to 4500 should match pretty well.

Good luck

I'm sure any of the LED's you listed will work.....I'm just not sure of the quality.

If you do a search here, you should fine a zillion threads regarding leds...

I used PIAA extreme white 168/194 Bulbs in my clearance light and side markers....they matched the MTEC's pretty well.....

Sorry, I can't give you more info on the LED's since I never had any experience with them.
Good luck

Those top 2 links would work for sure. Not sure about the 3rd since the add doesn't say 168 or 194 anywhere... but the pic looks right. I actually have the type in link 3, it has 6 forward facing diods. I have this in blue. I've enjoyed them for well over a year but I'm about to change them. The blue is a bit too piercing for what I want now.

The kind on link 2 I would not get. It will look like a little pinpoint and unless that is what you are going for you will not like it.

Link 1 looks very interesting but I have no experience with that. I'm considering trying a SMD LED with 6 SMDs and only 1 forward facing. Basically the WLED-xHP6 at superbrignhtleds. I think more 360 degree coverage would be nicer than all the forward directional light. But whatever look you are going for... as long as it fits a 168/194 base you are good.

^^ cool. Post up the pics when you get it done. I realized I meant to say WLED-xHP5 on the 5 SMD light with the 1 facing forward. The 6 has none forward. I'm actually about to get both in cool white. The 6's for the instrument panel on another car.

I just posted some pics of my ride that show the blue LEDs here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/new-mem...hello-dfw.html

Also, was going to give you a heads up on getting into the lights... one part that you have to undo requires quite a bit of force... you'll find it trust me. I wrestled with it for about 40 minutes my first time and was finally like I'm getting in there or I'm gonna break it... then it popped off and I was like OH!!! that's how it comes off. After you have an understanding of that it's pretty easy to get into the lights.
