Re: LED project part 3... GAUGES REVEALED (56k haha)

thanks for the comments

i wasn't sure if you could take out the needles or not so i left them on. I didn't want to risk breaking anything as these gauges aren't really easy to get for cheap... I bent the sheet and carefully sanded the inside using my fingers...make sure the needles don't rub the face or there will be scratch marks on it..

btw you can get the leds from here <a href="http://www.quickar.com/prodview.php?session=nPPDfOef&id=74">http://www.quickar.com/prodview.php?...nPPDfOef&id=74</a> and the center console LEDS from ebay.. "surface mount LEDs"

I'm interested in changing my dash light to blue, similar to what you had done to yours. I'm just wondering if you could tell me what I need to purchase, and where I can get them from? Thanks!

Man, this looks great, but what's more important is, and I have to say it: you got some big ***** ! to f**k around with that. I can only imagine what would have happened if I would attempted to do this - A big a$$ credit card bill for a new interior LOL

Awesome job nonetheless !

wassup accordfreak! hot gauges! w/ the exception of the E46 (current, or, outgoing 3-series) which sports red, practically every competitor has every other color under the sun other than orange! (and if you get the new Mustang, you can literally chose from 100 diff. gauge colors.) infiniti says that they used orange because studies show that orange (or red) have less strain on the eyes at night, blah blah blah. i have an '03 altima which has these same damn halloween orange gauges and i'm sick of them! what, were these orange light bulbs on sale at wal-mart or something? haha

anyways, great job on the lights man! couple ?s tho: 1) are you planning on converting (if not already) your rear turn signals and corner markers to LEDs too? and 2) what about putting LEDs in the interior (console light, floodlight door path, etc. like the '06 GS430, Audi A6, etc.)?

seriously, tho, i think you'd have a serious case for some kind of exporting business if you ever decide to mass produce these! congrats again!

wow old thread... haha
hello i have been reincarnated .. thanks for the comments... as of recent, i tried to do something different with my gauges and I broke my RPM gauge and temp gauge HAHA.. but I bought another gauge cluster for like 150 bucks.. so if anybody wants me to convert those bulbs to LEDS, let me know. I can also sell the face plate all prepped up for you. i can update you guys later if any of you are interested..

I eventually want to convert everything to LEDS.. (turn signals.., side markers etc etc)
you can basically convert everything and anything with a bulb to an led.. you just need the correct resistor and LED. i'm not a electrical engineer so i'm still trying to understand all the electronic stuff...

LED information

Accordfreak,

I'd be interested in getting all the information on converting my G35 to blue LED. It looks really cool and good job. Are you gonna do the exterior lights yourself as well? Check out www.ClearCorners.com What difference does it make that I have an '05 though? Thanks.

is there a way to leave the gauges white? obviously it could be done on the console with white LEDS i guess, but maybe on the gauges just sand off the orange and leave it plain?

also, have you tried adding a diffuser sheet to potentially alleviate hot spots? they sell stuff like that at some theatrical stores i think

holy old thread. haha

if you sand off the orange and use the regular bulbs, it'll give off that yellowish color. Kind of what the license plate lights or the clearance lights look like. You could, however, put in "super white" bulbs like you do for the clearance lights to give that white look. or you could maybe somehow dye the bulb light blue somehow so it can give off that white light.

As for the diffuser idea, it has been implemented on the 2005. They have a plastic diffuser sheet about 3mm thick behind their gauges and a cone like shape behind each number. Each number has their own surface mount LED so it would be nice and bright.
I'm going to try to replicate something like the 2005 so everything would be nice and even. https://g35driver.com/forums/interior-exterior/58430-2005-gauges-c-temp-display-exposed.html
