aftermarket hid's on my G

Hey guys.

Was just wondering if anyone has used aftermarket hids on their G's that came with hid's from the factory. My passenger side ballast took a poop on me and the left is flickering, I fear it is going to go out on me soon. I have never had an aftermarket ballast go out on me, not even cheap ebay ones. So Ide like to switch. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what is needed to bypass the factory ballast?

I did search, trust me. I just didnt find anything solid. TIA.

Jer.

in the middle of the install now.....

I had a ballast go out on mine so i ordered a complete kit off ebay and the wiring is my issue on the install. definitely not a plug and play deal. Trying to find a wiring diagram or someone thats done this before online but zero luck thus far

edit* I t-tapped the headlight wire and bypassed the oem ballast. works perfect

if you just want to replace the OEM ballast instead of installing an aftermarket kit (you basically have to rewire the entire headlight) I have a set off my 06 coupe with projectors that I will sell you for deals

Can you do a DIY on it. I would really love to know how to do this for both Lo-Beams and Fog Lights. Thanks!

I only have a min but in a nutshell.....

-pulled the HL out
-took out OEM ballast and HID
-removed ignitor wire from housing
-extend new bulb wires approx 12" to run back through the housing
-remount ballast and T-tap into its wiring (green +, black -) I left it in/on as theres another wire coming off it that i didnt want to disturb
-use those wires to power aftermarket balast and mount it behind the HL somewhere. I had to cut the plug off the aftermarket ballast and install connectors to plug into the T-taps
plug everything in as usual and reinstall headlights. Viola!

Oem projector w/ aftermarket ballasts

Hi, I was wondering if you could give a more detailed description of the wiring you had to change. I have the 06 projectors with bulbs included. I am using aftermarket ballasts and I'm having trouble with wiring them.

I got it working, it actually was pretty simple. The issue was me not noticing on my aftermarket ballast that the black wire is the positive, so the problem was my wires were crossed up. Switched them around and everything is working now.

I will try to post a diy tomorrow while I'm off. The lights are still dismounted, so I can give you detailed pics.

Please and thank you. I've been wanting to do this for my car for quite some time now. I just need a DIY to guide me, esp with the wiring.

Thanks alot for the info guys, if you could post a link to your DIY in this thread for future searchers and myself I would really appreciate it.

I was thinking I could unplug the harness on the bottom of the ballast, cut the plug off and use those 2 wires in the plug for the signal to the aftermarket HID ballast, is that how you guys did it? Taking the ballast off and disconnecting the ignitor wire like previously mentioned seems like over kill, I would leave all the factory junk in there and just run the wires like I would on any car without factory garbage HID's.

I saw on DDM's website they make an $8.00 adapter to allow us to use aftermarket ballasts. Anyone order this?
