I'm going through the same issues. I notice on mine though if i tap on the wire going to the unit, the lights come back on. Seems like a shoddy solder joint somewhere on the board or in the wire/connector. How did you get the light out? Did you remove the top shelf or just do it through the trunk?

Mine had bad solder too. Then the LEDs broke within a week of fixing the solder. You might end up having to replace the whole thing.

To remove the light unit, at least on my 2005 G35 Coupe, you push the light assembly back towards the trunk, then lift up and out.

Yeah, but I haven't seen one yet. And I hear they're much harder to remove from the car than the coupe.

Hey Ben your post encouraged me to try to repair this as well. I used my 12V motorcycle battery to test out and the only leds that worked were the 2 middle ones. I got some replacement leds off of ebay. HPWT-DH00 Bright Red/Orange SuperFlux LUMILEDS http://www.ebay.com/itm/321182341641...84.m1497.l2649. I dont know what the hell is wrong, but I keep on burning out these things as I am testing! I removed 2 of the original side leds and taped on 2 of these new ones and they light up momentarily and than sort of pop/short out leaving a nice electric smell behind. Are the leds cheap or am I just doing something stupid? Any info would be cool. Thanks man.

What is the max voltage rating on these LEDs you found (as usual, eBay description is vague)?

I believe the board runs 5-6V and if your LED has a max capacity of 5V or less it will blow.

Ha, yeah thats why I offered to make boards for people here. Also why I scrapped the entire OEM board. It's bad. I'm not sure how you're hooking them up to test, but if you give 12v to anything less than the full 6 LEDs on the board, you run the risk of blowing them. Or if you're bypassing the resistors, or wired them backwards.

Urban thanks. The LEDS I got are rated at 2.6v, but the ones that come stock are rated only 2.8v. So I dont know. Ben mentioned that maybe I should make sure all 6 leds are on before I test them. I thought that these were only in pairs of 2 so I wouldnt blow them out. but I am going to try using all 6 and see what happens. Thanks guys,.

Yeah, if you look at the way they are laid out, its three groups of two. Lets make the math easier and say it needs 9 volts for all 6 to light up properly, that would give each section 3 volts. Since each section has two LEDs in parallel, the voltage stays the same, so each LED would get 3 volts.

Now lets say you took that same 9 volts, and hooked it up to only two sections, or 4 LEDs. That'd increase the voltage going through each LED to 4.5 volts.

Also, if you're not connecting the power in such a way that it isn't going through the resistors on the back of the little board, you're not limiting the current that the LEDs can take and they'll die easily even on the correct voltage.
