03 g35 sedan FOGS???

I have spent much time searching for fog lights to add on but got to wondering why people were saying fog lights were part of the high beams. Are they, and is there a way to turn them on?

Also, I have aftermarket headlight assembly. Would that make a difference?

on the first gen models (03-05) the fogs are your brights. The fogs are inside the headlamp assembly. Since we have 1st gen HID's, they are only low beam. The fog's are dual filament. Low beam for fogs, high beam for, well, highs. The hid's stay on while the high beams are on. 2nd gen models have newer HID technology, and they are all bi-xenon, meaning they do not use the fogs for brights. There was also JDM fogs you could add to the bumper, but they are super duper expensive if you can find them, and a lot of people have deemed them tacky.
Are your aftermarket headlights hid or halogen? Were they direct plug in or did you modify wires? Regardless your headlamp is a single filament H1 (if halogen) or D2S (if HID) and the fogs are dual filament H4's so every time you flip the brights on, the H4 fog bulb will also light up.

I have just bought the car and it looks as if the past owner cut and spliced wires for low beams at least. The lights are xenon h1 bulbs.

My brights work. I just cant seem to wrap my head around how the lights are set up. In these pistures, are the indicated lights the fogs? And yes one of them is burnt out and same with low beam. my ballast is burnt out for the hid. replacing it today.

Im starting to wonder if the previous owner put h4's in the headlight spot and spliced wires so you only ran the headlights for lows/brights instead of headlight/ fog for brights like it should be for 03-05. Post up a pic of your broghts on

Frostbite, are you saying that we have to turn on the brights, then turn on the fog lights to see them work?

no, the car shares the same bulb for fogs/brights. Look at this video I just took of mine. You can see how the lows are just the hid, then I activate fogs, then I activate brights. You can see in the video how much brighter the fog light gets when I turn the brights on. The fog light is just an H4 bulb, which is a headlight bulb on most other cars.

Thanks Yall

I appreciate the help. Lows are H1 HID 10k and Highs are H4 which at low beam are fogs if the fog switch is on. Previous owner did do a lot of cutting and splicing and now I am attempting to clean it all up.
