Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
Well, I finally got pics of the Sylvania SilverStars. I'm very pleased with the colour which is a VERY good match for the stock HIDs. See for yourelf at;

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
Cost is about $40 CDN each. Sylvania ships to the dealers in boxes of three. PartSource offered to bring them in for me as a special order, but only if I bought all three. I checked around and was quoted as low as $32 (mistake?) but he said they weren't available for a couple of weeks. The rest of the 9000 ST series are readily available from several local dealers.
Apparently the 'AutoSense' dealers (various stores listed in Yellow Pages) are supposed to be able to get them from a warehouse in BC.
Probably the best thing is to call Sylvania at 1800-265-2852. Both Anne and Robin were very helpful in locating a source for me. Hopefully by the time you look, they'll be more available than they have been for me.
They're worth it at 2/3 the price of PIAAs and are noticeably brighter than stocks.

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
I too am interested in changing my non-HID's to xenon lights and wanted a clear white color with no blue or purple wahtsoever? Should I go for the Sylvania silverstars, or PIAA's? And if I go for the PIAA's, which one is best for a clean white look (extreme white, superextreme white, super whit platinum, super plasma). What model of silverstars fit best? thanks

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
I couldn't find PIAA Ion Yellow H-4 bulbs on their website. It is an interesting look and might be better in actual fog/snow. As long as the highs are Xtreme Whites.
The other day, I was driving in the light rain with my fogs on. Some guy turns on his highs on me. Because of the dual beam, must have thought I was driving on highs or something. He dipped his brights REAL fast when I flashed MY highs! LOL !
Might avoid some confusion if the fogs were yellow.

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
The fog/highs use a standard H-4 / 9003 / HB2. The Osram-Sylvania SilverStars that I used were the 9003 ST. They aren't yet listed on the SilverStar page, but you can call them re local availability or order them online.

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
for some reason, my G35 fried my 2 PIAA parking lights once i install them......
i'm running Super Plasma HID as fogs, the low beam is super plasma, and high beam is super white.
btw, the Super Plasma blub flares much more at farther distance then the OEM HID.

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
So howmany lights are in the headlight housing? TO my understanding there is the OEM Xenon, and the foglights (which seem to do highbeams too?) And the signal indicators. Is this correct?

Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
There are a total of four bulbs, the OEM Xenon, the Foglight/Highbeam, the Parking light, and the signal light. The parking light is in the manual as a clearance light.
Re: Fog Light Bulb Upgrade PICs
I walked into the local PartSource store here in Edmonton about a month ago and Leo, the manager, tried to convince me that the PIAAs that he sold were superior to Silvania SilverStars when I asked why he didn't carry them. I showed him my STs and advised that he research and do his own comparison. I walked in to the store today and he greeted me with "You were right, thankyou!"
He said after researching and ordering some SilverStars, he did some side x side comparisons mounted in his car using 9006s. The PIAA Super Plasma GTs had a distinct purple tinge to them and were definitely not as bright as the STs. The Extreme Whites are PIAAs brightest bulb, and were much closer to the STs, both in colour temp and brightness. He said looking at the light housing, the Extreme Whites seemed to look a tinge bluer, but the actual beam of the STs were brighter / whiter when shone against a white wall.
He recently in ordered the entire line of Sylvania SilverStars and by word of mouth, since Friday when he got them in, he's already sold numerous sets to several customers looking to upgrade the lights on their Hondas, Lexuses (Lexi?), etc. He said he's returning all of the 9000 series PIAAs that he has and just keeping the ones that STs don't come in. He says he's going to make a request of Sylvania that they bring out the STs in H-1, etc. (good news for those of you looking at the low-beam upgrade without going to HID). He's selling off his stock of 'EuroLights' as even their over-watt bulbs aren't as bright as the STs.
The 9003 ST sells for about $40 CDN each.
BTW, pestilence, he couldn't find a listing for the PIAA H-4s in Ion yellow in PIAAs newest North Am. catalog. Thought it might be exclusive to Europe or Asia or something. Try contacting cadillaccarl re where he got them.
