What type of headlight bulbs are needed to give off a purple tint? Help Please

Thank you for clicking. Driving home today it was kinda foggy, there was an 03+ S class behind me and his lights looked amazing. I understand he has projector lights, but is there a type of bulb that will give similar results for my 04 g?

im not quite sure how the k scale works, i think the lower the number the more color shown, but less output... does that sound right?

I think alot of it has to do with the projector and housing. I remember a while back I asked that in another forum. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. I believe the bulbs are all the same as any ordinary factory xenon bulb. Just the projectors and housing gives it that effect.

No, the only way to get that nice blue flicker is to retrofit a set of projectors. The TSX and e46's are the most popular, for their amazing output and very colorful cutoff. Even thought with a set of 4100K bulbs the light on the ground is **** yellow, when looking at an oncoming vehicle with colorful cutoff projectors, you will see that very nice blue hue and flicker.

i just put new xenons in all 4 lights (replaced factory with new 8000k bulbs, and new HID kit 8000k too in the fogs). Fogs look more blue than the headlights, but before the 8k i had 10k replacements for the main light and it was too purple for me so i switched to 8k. got em on ebay for a good price and install myself....if you want the purple look go 10000k or 12000k for replacements, if you want blue your best bet is to change the whole kit to an aftermarket 8, 9 or maybe even 10k depending on preference.

8000K will give you blue light output, not the very nice blue hue and flicker he is talking about, like those of TL's, TSX's, BMW's, Maximas

6000k would be your best bet. I have them and they look great. It gives a nice purplish color like cars with projectors. 8000k will get more on the blue side and light visiblility will be alot less. Going from the stock bulbs to my philips 6000k already hindered some light visibility...i would think it would be more so with 8000k. Also, for our stock housing, d2R would be best

K = kelvin, the temperature the bulb burns at. (somebody didn't take chemistry)

they're suppose to fit right in unless you buy the wrong ones.

7K should be bluish, while 8K+ should be purple...

But then again, nicer cars with projectors still have a white beam, just the projectors give a purlpe or blue colored flare or flicker depending on the angle and distance you're seeing it from... just depends on the car it's off of... Audi projectors give off a nice purple hue, especially when the lights are warming up. TL projectors will look purple from an angle too...

Without a projector retrofit I think you will be sacraficing a lot of light output just to have purple headlights. The higher K bulbs have much less light output.

thank you all again... i guess its not worth having 12000k if i am going to lose alot of light output...
one other question... why do some people upgrade their bulbs like the quote below, if they are direct replacement? what is the change?
