I just came across these. PIAA makes replacement D2R bulbs for us(availible in D2S also). I believe they are 6600K, which should be a really nice color. They are a bit pricey though, list is around $475, and I see them selling for around $400. Any thoughts/opinions?

6600k may be a bit too blue - you might get hassled by cops. also, the bluer it gets, the less light it makes. and besides - $400 is way too much.

consider getting Phillips Ultinon 6000k D2R - i just bought a set on ebay for $200:

yea i bought a set as well from ebay for 200. And plus the phillips brand IMHO, is the better brand when it comes to these types of bulbs

 

Are the Phillips Ultinon 6000k D2R the best bet for the 2006 projectors?

 

not sure if projectors in 06 coupes use D2R or D2S...

 

I think D2S are projectors and D2R for regular reflector

 

Projectors use D2S. The rest of us use D2R.

 

you'll need the D2S bulbs for the projectors.

yes you can modify the D2R bulbs by shaving the black strip on the bulb for a light output similar to the D2S bulbs, but I wouldn't do it.

FYI:
D2R bulbs are for the HID reflector housing like the 05 and previous years.
and the
D2S bulbs are for the HID projector housings found on the 06 G's

as far as answering your question. I'm personally going to stick with Phillips bulbs. yea, i'll pay a couple more bucks but their bulbs are pretty damn good!

^^^ no idea. i looked, couldn't find anything about it... so, went with PIAAs - seems to be a popular combo.

 

Halogen bulbs, but not some hid rebased crap.. not to mention anything it's illegal.

I have the phillips ultinon 6k and they do not look as blueish white as I had hoped. I'm more interested in the look than the visibility, so I think the piaa 6600 may look better. Piaa halogen's seem to be good quality compared to all the junk bulb manufacturers out there, so i can only assume their HID bulbs are good quality too. Once my ultinons burn out, I'll get a set of the piaas. If you're looking for quality and visibility, can't go wrong with the ultinons...

 

PIAA are expensive, and burn out in weeks.....I would question their HID!

 

Really? I've always bought piaa's for my previous non-HID cars and they lasted the longest by far out of all the other halogen bulbs I've bought. That's why I never mind paying twice as much for them.

 

You obviously don't have to worry about deer or wild hogs crossing your path at night!
