HID Newbie Question

This is my first car with HID's so I don't know much about them. I notice a lot of people swap out there OEM capsules for higher temp. ones. Do HID capsules swap out just as easy as halogen bulbs or is it more involved? I wouldn't mind going up to 6000K for a more blue/purple light.

I think it's a little more involved although i've never messed with them, i just did a DIY for the fogs in the lighting section. Also if you are going to go with 6000K bulbs you wont get a blue/purple tint. It will be more of a white/blue tint. If you want blue/purple you need atleast 8000K if not 10000K but keep in mind anything over 6000K you'll lose your light output from stock, just something to think about.

Yeah, I know about the output thing. I like the color of the Acura HID's. What do you think those are?

don't swap out the bulbs I would go with a projector retrofit if you want a better looking light output from your headlights. If you really want to do something in the lighting department get rid of you yellowish halogen fogs and purchase a bulb to better match your headlights.

Well, I'm leasing so a projector retrofit is out of the question. I wish the G's came with stock projectors.

Pearl, what's involved with the swap? Maybe you can sell me your 6000K's after you put in your 6600K's.

To do the swap you just change out your bulbs. I have 8000K bulbs in mine.

My guess is Acura uses something in the 4600 range. It's not the bulb temp that makes them look good, it's the housing. It's all about the housings with HID's.

I agree. Even older Audis/BMWs with HIDs + a projector housing put out a very intense / nice colored light

DIY- Do It Yourself
Here's the link to the DIY i just did for replacing your foglights with halogen H4 bulbs (not HID) it should help you out.

If you dont want HID's then you dont have to buy a whole kit, you just have to buy H4 bulbs.

Its easy, I did it in 30 minutes, just don't touch the bulb with your hands.

^You're right it's easy, i did it in 30 with taking pics in between and you're right about not touching the bulb. It's OK if you do just try not to as the oil from your fingers can make the bulb burn out.

8000k? that is so rice, 8000k lights are the best way to spot ricers at night. there is practically no light output, you might as well just go 12000K or better yet, just stick some blacklight bulbs in there, since you are going for the pimped out look
