Fog Lights behind Lower Grills
Fog Lights behind Lower Grills
This topic has been touched on in previous threads without any successful feedback.
Has anyone had any luck with installing and mounting fog/driving lights behind the lower front grills? I've spoke to several mechanics and they told me that the bumper would have be disassembled for a successful clean install and I look at them with a "ya gotta be kidding". Also, in case the bulb, blows, it would be a good idea to get easy access.
Any ideas? Anyone with pics of successful installs? Do share. Thanks

The difficulty that I've encountered is how do you get behind the grills. The black plastic grills are integrated with the bumper as a one piece unit. Do you go behind? Under or from top?

I'm also interested. Are you talking coupe or sedan. I just ordered an '04 sedan with the Areo kit which should have more space to work with, although I wonder if blocking air flow is an issue. Any thoughts anyone?
Re: Fog Lights behind Lower Grills
I mounted a set of driving lights to use as daytime running lights behind those two lower grills. I didn't have any trouble getting my hand in there by just removing the screws from the lower engine cover. I was the one that used the 3M double stick foam trim tape to mount them. They have been there for a couple of months now with no problem. I do not have them wired up yet though. I have been trying to find a location under the hood that is only hot when the ignition is on. I would use this hot lead to trigger a relay to turn on the lights.

Sounds good. Could you provide pictures of the job you did so that we could get a clear idea of the approach you took.
Thanks

Yeah pictures would be good. Also what kind of lights do you have begind the grills? And will this double stick tape actually hold? What about extreme weather conditions like rain?

Photo #1. They were a medium priced set that I thought had a really good weather seal around the edges. I don't remember the brand name. I have used this 3M double stick trim tape for years. It is the same stuff the US manufacturers use to hold trim pieces on the cars. It will hold up to any weather related effects. You can find this stuff at most automotive paint stores and I think I have even seen it at Walmart.

Nice job. Too bad you don't have it wired up yet. It would be cool to see how the front end looks at night with all the lights on. If you manage to power up your driving lamps, post a picture.
I'm glad to learn that the lights can be mounted by going through the bottom engine cover.
