Blinker Mod DIY Guide

I had several people ask me to write up the blinker mod. This is the mod where your blinkers don’t turn on when the headlights are on, but they are still functional. IMO it gives a cleaner look (especially on 06) did i mention that it will cost you almost nothing?

I will not be held responsible for anything that might happen during your modding, or any consequences you might get after the mod. (like a ticket) Do everything at your own risk guys.

To start with, you will need a couple of tools:

flathead screwdriver
Phillips screwdriver
electrical tape
scissors (to cut the tape)
car jack

Lets get started:

Make sure your wheel is turned inward so you have access to all the screws, then jack up one front side of the car.

There are 6 push pins and 2 screws you need to remove in the wheel well, keep em in a safe place once you do.

Next you want to peel the lining back so you can get access to the headlight. This is the lazy part, I know that there is a way to take the lining off, but i just bent it back because the lining is a PITA to take off.

Get a hole big enough so you can fit your hand in it, you will have to put your hand behind the headlight and feel for the blinker cap. It has a "wing" on each side so you can use them for leverage once you start turning, the blinker then should come off and hang on its wire.

Once the blinker is out, pull out the light bulb (just straight out).

As you can see the light bulb has 4 prongs on it. 2 for the taller filament and 2 for the shorter filament.

The object is to block the prongs for the taller filament, so cut some tape and tape off the inner prongs of the bulb. I cut pieces that were long enough to wrap around the bottom and cover the other side, just so the tape doesn’t get pulled back when i re-insert it.

Dont cover the outer prongs or your bulb wont work at all. And wash your hands! I didnt, but i whiped off the bulb.

The bulb wont get too much heat, since it only comes on when it blinks for few sec.

Now put everything back, and repeat for the other side of the car.

And the result is... a clean looking G. The orange doesnt come on at night, but you can still use blinkers.

hey polishthrust, great write-up thanx!. i got a suprise for you and the guys. if you remember a few days ago i was asking you how to remove the square leds on the taillight, well guess what i finally did it. and you kno whats the best part, its as simple as your blinker mod! ( and no its not cutting the wires, i tried and both circle and square leds would not light up lol)
im waitin for my camera to get back so i can take a picture of the final results. no write-up tho but its so easy to do.

REALLY?! now you got me all excited, huuurrryyy....

I dont suppose there is a way to disconnect individual LEDs? That would be awesome, i would just make em into a circle instead of a square.

I've got an 05 with 06 projectors and mind don't turn on. They only turn on when you signal.

you can just take off the 7443 bulb from the 03-05 headlights and put in the 7440 bulbs that goes in the 06 headlights.
correct me if im wrong, but thats the difference in the bulbs
