You need to purchase two things to accomplish the converter cable.

1)Used 03/04 cluster. You need this for the extra housing so you can keep yours intact, and also you need it for the connectors on the cluster that you can desolder.

2)Connectors that plug into 05/06 cluster. You can usually find these from salvage yards. I had to call around to a few places so they could actually snip these off the wrecked car that pulled the 05/06 cluster. If you find a cluster on ebay, get in touch with the person selling, they are usually a salvage yard selling the cluster and ask them to walk out to the car and snip off the connectors for you.

i really wanna do this as well. another question. is there any way to change the backlighting on the guage? because i dunno about yall, but i think the orange sucks, and i think a white and blue guage cluster would look a lot cleaner and more luxurious

A couple members have successfully changed the lighting from Amber to Blue and Blue/White combo.

Talk to AccordFreak.

So I looked at what was done, and here are my conclusions:

1. I will need 03 and 05 harnesses.

2. I will clip the piece of the 03 harness that leads into the cluster itself, just before the connector.

3. I will also clip off the wires leading into the 05 harness connector.

4. I will then use optical connectors to hard wire the 03 harness into the 05 harness, just before the connector, using the wiring diagram.

Once this is done, take out my OEM 03 harness, and replace with this hybrid connector. The cluster should work immediately, right?

I picked up an 06 cluster, just trying to get the harnesses.....anyone else been successful since the last posting here?

No one has done this?? I am alone?? No way.....anyway, re-thought the project....bought an 05 cluster and will be splicing directly into the 03 wiring using optical connectors....... will splice the 05 harness into it. I will post a DIY if successful......wish me luck!

Just spoke to WhiteonWheat, thanks for the advice! Waiting for the 06 pigtails, will start work soon. In the meantime, here's a pic of an experiment I tried with my 03 cluster....added the 06 halos to the main gauges, didnt like it too much because they are a tiny bit smaller than the flat gauges they cover.....I want to go to an 06 cluster anyway....

hmm, the more i look at this stuff... the more im wanting to get into all this.

its pretty amazing how much better the updated cluster looks.

between everything else on my car getting upgraded to the newer stuff.... why not the cluster also?

Tom, from what I gathered from perusing this thread, am I looking at a total cost of parts around ... $200-300? or is this a $400-500 thing?

If you are lucky, you can get the cluster for anywhere between $85, which is what I paid for my first cluster, and $300 - it all depends on the value of the cluster to the seller.

Add in a few dollars for the optical connector ($15 was my cost for 100 of them) and I also paid $50 for the pigtails for the 06 cluster. So my total cost was about $150...till I used the 06 cluster to Frankenstein the 03 I just posted pics of I should have just done the conversion. Anyway, I picked up another cluster, so I will be starting once I get the pigtails in the mail.

You can save lots of $$ if the cluster you pick up has the pigtails on it.....make sure you ask the seller to include them if available, or you'll get screwed trying to pick them up separately, like I wound up doing.

Ok cool, so to confirm then:

Your frankenstein maneuvar fell short because the sizes were different so it looked bad.

So you are going back to the original idea that was done on the thread by a few people which is modify the back of the 06' cluster to tie it into our 03 wiring?
