M35 Fender Light Bulb Replacement ??

Here's my fender light that I cannot get opened. I know how to get it off the care, BUT can't get to the bulb...

I'd like to replace the amber bulb with 5K white LED but can't get the clear cover off the back. I used a wide thin putty knife to try to pry the clear cover off the back, and it started to chip the clear part. I looked at it in a dissecting microscope, and it looks to me like the clear cover is glued to the gray back piece. Since it is exposed to the weather, it wouldn't surprise me if they glued it shut. I also tried heating it to about 20F in the over, but that did not help.

I know people have talked about changing out the bulb on the fender light but I can't get the housing apart!

If you have a 08+, you cannot open the housing. You can try buying the older version which opens up and lets you change to the bulb, but I'm not sure if it fits on the 08+ models
