FIRST REAL POST M45 or 545I

Ive been looking at both these cars for a while now. Personally I own the G35 Coupe. But as a sedan. These are both BEASTS...

Which one do u guys think is faster. With the numbers alone the M has more horsepower and more torque. But does BMW's SMG play a role on which one will be quicker???

How did you mod your coupe into a sedan?

Don't you mean 550i? Unless you're buying used, then 545.

as far as i know the only differences between the m45 and m35 are the engine....
i was also considering a m35x supercharged...
you'd get attesa et-s awd, all the options of an m45, and more power than a 550i...in a package that -even after mods- will probably spend less time in the dealer/shop

BMW will never enjoy the reliability of Infiniti...

Like all BMWs, the 5 series is a very nice, very overpriced car.

M tops the list..

I Own the G35 Coupe.
I was in the market for a sedan. I wanted to know which one is better from the performance angle. The M45 or the 545I.

How can you mod a coupe into a sedan???

OK, I just couldn't follow the sentence structure you had in the original post.

I don't know much about the 545i but have looked at and driven Msedanman's M although it wasn't a real long or hard charging effort. It's very nice. It is a bigger and heavier car than the G but still handles well and some some of the same feel as the G so you can tell it has Infiniti lineage. The car has much more torque though so has power at all speeds and rpms compared to the G. The ride is still fairly firm more so than I would have thought but that's why it still handles decently. It's beutifully finished inside and out.

The 5-Series steers and handles much better than the M. It's a much easier car to drive quickly on a curvy road, because the car responds more intuitively to input and you feel much more precisely in control of it.

The 5 also rides more smoothly, even with Sport Package.

If you want a six-speed, then the BMW is the only option anyway.

The magazines like the M's handling, but not its steering. For me steering is a large component of handling.

The M's interior is arguably nicer. Either car has very comfortable seats.

I've posted detailed reviews of the 545i (550 won't be much different) and M35 at epinions.com:

545i: http://www.epinions.com/content_217147805316
M35: http://www.epinions.com/content_181715766916

Reliability is such a murky area. BMWs seem not so good, but I'd like better data, so I've started collecting my own at www.truedelta.com. These particular cars won't be included for a while--I require at least 25 of a model/model year--but I'm close on the 3-Series and G35, and am already collecting data on the TL.

I would go with the M. Great ride, performance, etc. BMWs can be plagued with problems, and the interior of the 5 series is hideous IMO.

From: on some Prius forum somewhere. Also getting 60mpg.
go with the M. There are a lot of things that it does better than the BMW. Also, if you are someone that uses the interior controls alot, the BMW iDrive is a horrible setup. The M works flawlessly and you can't beat the voice control setup for phone, ac controls, radio, etc. Plus if you get the sport version, the steering is on par. The non-sport "floats" just a little more than the sport, but that is partially due to the non-rear active steer and 18" rims instead of the sport's 19" rims.

I agree the M now is lacking in gears......heck, even my new Civic has a 5 speed auto......and it's only 1/3 the cost.

I can see the next M interation with another 50 ponies and another cog or 2.

I haven't compared my sport steering to the non sport, but mine yields a lot of feedback and is quite nimble for a 4k lb. ride.
