i don' t get it. doesn't the key have to be with the vehicle in order for it to run? i thought this was part of the security. i would assume the engine would shut off after a pre-determined amount of time with the key missing. hence the warning beeps as u walk away.

I prefer it the way it is - it would be a major PITA if I started my car and got out to scrape the ice off the windows, only to have the engine shut itself off. It also means that I can leave the car running in the driveway, lock the doors and go back in the house (with my keys) to get something I might have forgotten.
