My 06 coupe is currently running on 89k miles and its about that time to change the shocks and the struts it seems. Ride seems a little bouncy and here a squeaky noise when going over bumps.

A while ago when I got the suspension checked by a mechanic, I think I remember him saying my bushings need to be replaced. I'm planning on getting Tokico Blue series for the shocks and struts but I have a question about the bushings. Would it be a better idea to get the bushings or shocks and struts replaced first or both at the same time. I'm getting a new clutch on top of this so I would ideally like to spread out how much I spend.

Do you think it is a bad idea getting the shocks and struts replaced first? The set of those I'm looking for around 380 plus labor would probably be around 600. I don't really know much about the bushings. How much they are and how much they cost to replace.

Replace them at the same time. Replace the bushings with polyurethane (whiteline or energy). The problem with replacing suspension parts at different times is that they all depend on each other to work properly. If something is bad, it's gonna cause premature wear on good parts.

Also, since he's already gonna have those parts off the car it'll save you a ton of money on labor later by him not having to tear it apart again.

 

If you MUST spread that out. Do bushings first. I used energy bushings and paid a mech to install them. Bushings were like $165 and the labor was $635 for just the front. If the bushings are bad, the alignment can't be set correctly.

 

What bushings are bad? Most common would be the compression rod bushings. You can get a pair of those for about $50 from Infiniti and have them swapped out when he does your shocks. You can also upgrade to Whiteline compression rod bushings for around $100. Don't know what labor is to install those since a friend of mine has a hydraulic press so I did mine myself.


Whiteline also has an "Essentials Kit" for around $250 that replaces all the front bushings plus the differential bushings.

 

man labor is expensive. i would get a buddy with some car knowledge and do it together. save you a lot of money.
scraggle hit the nail on the head, it would be nice to spread out. but you really do need to replace all broken and work suspension parts at the same. otherwise you will be wasting money.

 

I'd do the UCA bushings too
