Actually, Mike, it was seeing your car that originally gave me the idea, so tip of the cap to you.

I loved the look on your car, and I asked the wheel guy to do something similar (though I should have brought him a picture). I really wasn't sure if it would end up anywhere close to what you did. Fortunately, it did. You're right I do need a drop but my driveway has a steep entrance and my work garage has one too, so no drop is likely for me, unfortunately.

 

Thanks! I've been thinking about spacers but I'm leaning toward not bothering. Many people say they are safe and fine, but I'm concerned about the PITA factor (putting in new studs, etc.) and the changes to scrub radius, alignment, etc. that go with them.

 

If you go with 20mm+, you can get Ichiba V2s which are simple bolt on. They use your current studs and have longer ones built in. 20mm or 25mm all around would look great and would take no more than 30 min to install without screwing with your alignment, etc.

Yeah, I've looked at those, but I'm concerned about placing a lot of the stress of holding the wheel on to a single 20mm disc of aluminum. With wheel adapters (which is essentially what the Ichiba v2 and H&R DRM are) you transfer much of the cornering load off of the wheel hub and onto the spacer. A risky proposition IMHO. Probably nothing would ever happen, but I don't really want to take that chance.

And though many don't do it, you really should adjust the alignment after installing these because it alters the scrub radius of the car, which definitely can influence camber and toe changes under braking. Yes, aftermarket wheels w/more aggressive offsets can do that too, but I'm just not sure I want to bother with all that.

 

i did spacers for a whole summer last year, never again. The vibration was subtle, but it was obvious and not reassuring at all. Might come down to a brand specific issue, but I still say always try to achieve what you want with offsets and widths first.

 

definitely makes sense. I have 10mm V1s on my rears and the ride is similar to pre-install. But as you go with larger spacers, I can assume ride would change somewhat.

 

I ran 25mm spacers on all 4 corners for over a year without the slightest problem or defect. I understand being cautious but I can say from my experience I would not hesitate to run them again.
