Thats correct, not a fan of the 06+ housing to be honest.
I used a set of 07 g35 sedan taillights for this retro, quite simple and straight forward.

True or false?

Do you have to physically cut open the taillight with a dremel or does it just need to be baked liked our headlights do?

i think they are exactly like the headlights, ive seen other threads/posts where people are making the second ring using 2005 sedan tails as the donor

always wanted dual rings but i want them in the JDM 06 tails

Tails are sealed differently, unfortunately you must cut them open. Its not as bad as i expected

I would like to know as well, since I wouldn't mind tackling this project sometime down the road.

i sealed my headlights with Silicone RTV from work, called Shinitsu, we use it to externally seal compartments so that moisture doesnt get into sensitive equipment cabinets or inside circuit breaker internals so obviously an over kill like that worked magic lol

im pretty sure that will do the job but like i posted already i want to see what the process is since hes cutting them open

I used "Amazing Goop" glue, can find them at most hardware stores.

I used it twice before on my previous car and sealed it with no leaks whatsoever.

I might start my second one today, its very simple and took me less than 3 hours on the first one (also had 5 of my friends over playing PS3 lol). Second one i doubt it'll take me over an hour worth of straight work
I'll take some pictures and maybe do a write up

Awesome! I'll look forward to a write up. I'm not too extremely talented when it comes to wiring and it'll be my first attempt at a retrofit too. I've always wanted the dual rings in the tails and if it's pretty simple, then it looks like I'll have to look for a set of Sedan tails off of a wrecked Sedan somewhere around here.

Do you know if it'll be an issue with the 06-07 tails? I only ask because you already know that the housing is recessed.

I'm pretty sure you'll do fine, its pretty straight forward. Trade me your hood for my tails? lol jk
I saw pics of an open 06+ tail lights and they seemed to be exactly the same, minus the trunk release button which i read is a bitch to cut around.
