Pic request: DP Sedan with '07 Coupe Rims & some questions
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the G35 community and I just found out about this forum a couple weeks ago. I bought a 2004 Desert Platinum G35 Sedan about 9 months ago and love the thing to death. I never planned on modding it at all other than wheels and possibly putting the stock body-color sideskirts on to replace the black that runs along the bottom now.
I've been in touch with a tech at a local Infiniti dealership and he's got some 19" 07 Coupe wheels laying around the shop that they'll let loose to me for $400, which is a sick deal. I don't know whether I want to put them on my car though, I would have to buy new tires (which I will have to soon anyways so it works out) and I'm wondering as to whether I'm going to need a suspension adjustment so the 19's look alright as right now I've got the stock 18's (?) on the car.
Hopefully somebody out there has done this setup before, a DP sedan with the new '07 coupe wheels. Any pics would be appreciated, and any advice on whether or not the 19's will look fine without any suspension work or if I'm going to have a funky gap. I look forward to being a part of this forum and eventually being able to contribute myself. Thanks!

I don't know the offsets of the 07 coupe rims but if they follow suit with the earlier years...as long as you don't plan on lowering it too much, you won't have to worry about rubbing or making any adjustments. Going beyond and 1 inch, you will most likely have to run some negative camber and roll the rear fenders for them to tuck as well as run a low profile tire.
That is a great deal on the rims.

Thanks for the responses guys. I forgot to mention that obviously I'll be buying the wheels either way regardless of whether I put them on my car or not. I just don't want this to go from a ~$900 project to a $2000 project if I'm going to have to get suspension work done for it to look right. The tech said they'll slap right onto my car fine but I'm just hoping it doesn't look too irregular. I really don't want to have to lower the car, I like where it is right now but I'd have to think going with a larger wheel will increase the gap enough to where I'm not going to like it, and then it's going to be more work than I'd like to do, at least right now.
If I'm going to be putting that kind of money in the car I'd rather get the skirt set which would run around $1500 with the tech's discount. And besides that I've got a nice crack in my rear bumper that I'm going to need to get replaced eventually, that might come first before I do any other cosmetic work. I was just going to do the wheels because it's a really good deal and I'm going to have to get new tires soon anyways, so it works out. I could probably get $400 for the stock wheels I have on now so it would just be like trading my wheels, all I'd be buying are new tires.
I'm just the kind of person that if I'm going to be putting a bunch of money into a car I'd rather just sell the car and use the extra cash to upgrade to something nicer, and I'm not against putting up more cash on top of that to really step it up. That's just me.

In that case we probably will not see you around too often on the forum we mood and modd it never ends. I understand your point about not passing up a good deal I say buy the rims $400 is a good price it may not look irregular to you since to the average person just slaps rims on and don't think twice about lowering their car. I personally would go with the factory Aero/Nismo kit and a set of 18" coupe rims if I didn't want to lower my car just improve the looks...
Not a DP sedan, but I hope this helps. When I put Coupe 19s on my sedan I hadn't planned on lowering it either. That lasted about 4 months.
The wheel gap isn't "huge" but it looks 10x better dropping it just an inch. If you are cool with the wheel gap on the stock suspension, then go for it.

thanks for the pics candlestick, that's exactly what i wanted to see. the gap doesn't look too bad at all, pretty much the same as with the stock wheels i'd say. have any pics of it with the drop? i know a drop would make it look better though, that's for sure. but for me the price of suspension modification wouldn't be worth it to me for just an inch in drop. im sure the handling would be better too but it's just not something i need. the g35 is already nice enough for me stock, if i want something better i'll just get a nicer car rather than dump a bunch of money into this one. not to mention modding usually = drop in resale value.
how much do suspension kits cost? would i just want coilovers or get the whole gig done? i guess i should know before i rule it out as being too expensive.
i had a jetta before this and was all about modding it, after i saw how much money i dumped into it for less resale value than if it were stock and it having to go to the shop almost monthly for other issues i decided i was done with that whole gig, for the amount of money i put into that car combined with the money i put up for this one i could've been rockin a nice 7 series.
edit: nevermind on the pics with the drop candlestick, i saw them on your blog. from the looks of it, the gap with the coupe wheels was smaller than that with the stock wheels, from what i can see? besides that your car is really nice, i like the subtlety of the mods, looks real clean and not overdone like some of the others i've seen around here. i feel like a really nice car like a g35 deserves more respect than a honda or mistubishi and shouldn't be kitted and gussied up, i guess some people don't feel the same.

lol, i agree with you by putting the money towards a nicer car. However, this is what we do and what we enjoy. It's a hobby and it never. Never. NEVER stops lol. I'm sure once you do one thing, such as the coupe wheels, give it about a month or little more, you will start wondering what you can do next. Hell, I started at clear side markers thinking thats all I would do. Now I have a bunch of things on the car now with a 5k Mod list for this coming spring/summer lol, but that's just me......and also the other couple thousand people on here.
This is what I would do, get the coupe wheels. 400 is a SICK deal and very hard to pass up. You'll like the look, promise. Later on down the road, if you feel like dropping it, get some 350z springs, it'll lower it an inch and look perfect. Just do it a little at a time. Just get the wheels and go from there. Some people actually have will power to say once I get this, I'm done. Unfortunatly, many people can't say stop lol. For you, you don't want to put a lot into it so dropping the amount for these wheels may just be it for you. Goodluck, and post pics if/when you get them

hey, i aint hating ive just kinda moved on from the modding scene after looking back on my last car and the **** i went through with it. if anything any mods i would do would have to be all in the family, thats why im gonna do the coupe wheels instead of a different brand and the 350z springs sounds attractive now that i know that you can do that. like i said above i would also want to get the sideskirts swapped from the black to body-color with some lip action, nothing that wouldnt come stock on a g35 in a different trim already. at least if i keep with nissan and infiniti parts the car will hold some value, from my experience any third party performance mods, no matter what it is, always brings the value of the car down or at least you wont be able to get anywhere near your money back out of it. that's how it goes with cars obviously but when youre modding youre just putting more money into it that youre never going to see again. btw im jewish if that explains anything :P but yeah im not against modding im just much more conservative about it now.
if the gap is unbearable after i put the wheels on ill probably ask the tech guy if he can source some springs, or maybe i can get lucky with a little junkyard hunting. i'd love to do the skirts but $1500 is a nice chunk of cash that i can use to buy something else that i actually need, im trying to buy a house here in the next couple of months so i know there's plenty of things that i'll need the money for.

totally understandable and we are all there with you. If you are worried about the value of the car, keep all your stock parts and when it comes time to sell, put all the stock parts back on and sell the mods. It's what I'm doing and later down the road it will be a good chunk of change I can use towards my new car for Mod's.
About the plastic sills around the car. Easier option... paint them. I have an 03 in Brilliant silver and got the ugly black plastic wrapped around that's fadding and looks like crap (don't get me started on this. Don't understand why infiniti would put such ugly plastic on such a nice car in the first place). You can get them painted to match the paint at a reputable body shop. Should run you at MOST 350-400. Luckily, I've got an uncle who is doing mine for free!! Anyway, it's a much more cost effective mod that will increase the comestic look and not drop a butt load of cash. I am getting them painted and putting a nismo/aero front end on come spring. Should look reallllllllll niceee
And don't worry about being so stuck on putting money into this, once again we all are. But, if you enjoy doing it, why not you live once!

Suspension costs vary. I got my springs used from another forum member for only $100. I also got new shocks because I had non-sport shocks that had ~40K miles on them and didn't think they would last very long. So total for parts for me was $575. Many people just start with springs, but I wanted to take care of everything all at once. Coilovers are more costly (although you can find good deals on tein basics that would only be a couple hundred more than my setup), but would have dropped me lower than I wanted to go.
The gap with the coupe wheels was smaller than my stock 17s (see the link in my signature for a pic with the stock 17s).
Thanks for the compliments on my car. I try to keep the look very clean and not overdone with anything mods I do. Its amazing how a few subtle mods can make a big difference. I started out with the Coupe 19s and clear corners, but ended up doing a lot more.
No regrets though, I'm happy with everything I've done. Happy modding!
^ +1 candlestick. looks great. very clean and suttle but realllllly changes the looks drastically. love it. I also came from the VW family. Passat though with 0 mod's as well. My g, different story lol
