Well first off, I got some 03/04 HID OEM headlights done up by the one and only g35papa and MAN they are sick. So in a way, they are smokinnnn in a good way! haha Here's a pic if you haven't seen them in my build thread...



But I've got an issue with another kind of smoking.

Chris painted the bezels black and cleared the turn signals. I got a pair of luminics H4 2500k jdm yellow fog bulbs and some pilot xenon chrome (amber) turn signal bulbs. So when I got the headlights, I put those bulbs in. In other words, I never touched the headlight D2R HID bulb at all. Before this mod, I had 8000k HID kit's in both the fogs and bulbs with an LED in the city light. Never had a problem. Now, it seems the headlamps get EXTREMLY hot to the touch and when on for a couple minutes, smoke appears inside with the new bulbs/headlights. I have NO clue what it may be from. My only guess is that the LED city bulb. I know LED's do NOT like heat so it could be it burning/smoking. I made sure I didn't touch any of the bulbs with my hands. I don't see how it could be the new luminics bulbs because they are running at the same wattage/voltage as OEM bulbs. Anyone have any suggestions or have seen this before? PLEASE let me know. you're not using the luminics jdm yellow fog bulbs with your HID ballast that you had on the fogs right?

 

no no no. I took those HID's/ballasts out of the car

I think I found the culprate. It was the luminics fog bulbs. I replaced one fog with the oem bulb and let it sit for a while. I felt the lense of each headlight (one with stock fog, and one with lumincs) the stock felt normal and the lumincs headlight was BURNING hot. So I immediately took the luminics out and replaced them all with the stock OEM bulbs. I think im going to go with the PIAA golden H4 bulbs. THey run at a lower wattage so that may do the trick

 

I hope the smokeing goes away too with those bulbs...keep us posted on that issue as well Chris

 

Ummm you shouldn't touch the bulbs, the oil from you skin could be the culprit.

 

I didn't touch the bulbs at all. I rubbed them down in rubbing alcohol even just incase. I was/am really careful when doing anything on the car. I know about the oil on your hands can damage the bulbs. The bulbs were burning SO much hotter than the OEM ones for some reason. Less wattage too. I don't have any idea why though. I should maybe give them another go since I cleaned them with the alcohol

 

Welp, put them back in and kept them on for a few to heat up... Passanger side (luminics) driver side (oem). Passanger side smoked driver side didnt. I'm going with the PIAA's. Pay for what you get

Headlights looks great chris. Another job well done from G35Papa. The painted grille will really set the front off nicely as well. Wow, Really busy month for you!!

 

Doesn't seem like anyone else had this problem. Maybe I got a bad set? Luminics look fantastic but are cheap

 

Thanks Joe! It's not no molded trunk lip or shaved door moldings! lol Chris did a GREAT job on it. I just polished them up today with my buffer and they look BRAND new. Lenses are crystal clear. I can't wait for the grill to be done. It'll really finish it all off

Decided to go with some PIAA 2500k H4 bulbs. Hopefully I'll have no issues with these. I am also going with some Philips Ultinon 6000k D2R bulbs too. It's going to look SICK

 

I've been on the fence on blackening my headlights and grille as well. Don't really like to rush into anything till I'm sure. The 6000k will look great.

 

DEF do it man. On DG, Blacked out headlights/girll looks AMAZINGGG. Plus with the rookie bumper.. ugh. drool. I say do it and while you are at it... throw some Projectors in the top of the headlights!
