I cant wait to see these projector light retros. I am so thinking of putting rims on hold and upgrade the lighting instead.

I have a secret love affair with yellow hids for the fogs.....I cant help it

Here is what I did:

1) Sand the grill down to take as much chrome off as possible. (50-100 grit sand paper)
2) Wash the grill with soap and water so the dust and grease come off.
3) Sand again with 500 grit sand paper to smooth it out a bit
4) Repeat wash
5) Optional - further sand the grill down with 1000 grit to get it as smooth as possible
6) Wash very throughly with soap and degreasing soap. Leave to dry.
7) Spray Duplicolor primer paint liberally onto clean, dried, sanded surface. Allow 10 minutes to dry on a warm day before apply another coat or 2.
8) Make sure there are no runs or bugs/dust bumps on primer coat. (If there are, resand and reprimer).
9) Apply 3-4 coats of duplicolor black color (either regular or gloss black, your choice) conservatively allowing 10-15 min in between to dry between coats. IF it's chilly outside I suggest putting the grill in front of a heat lamp.
10) Repeat process 9 with duplicolor clear coat.
11) Optional (do not attempt unless you know what you are doing) - use a 2000 grit sandpaper with light running water to wetsand for a smooth surface. Reclear after a light wash/dry.

Nice step by step Aaron. Really take your time in preparing the grille before prime/paint. Only way the grille will keep the paint and look good over several months or years. I would highly suggest the #5 step to prep the surface as smooth as possible. Don't skimp out on anything and take the time to prep!!
