My Charcoal Suede Headliner Photos
My Charcoal Suede Headliner Photos
Was tired of the ugly tan headliner. Always hated the color of headliners that Infiniti chooses. Decided to reupholster the whole headliner in charcoal gray suede. I didnt go with black as our interiors arent really black what people think. They are actually a very dark gray color aka graphite. I tried doing a black suede headliner and it was ugly. First off black suede doesnt even closely match in person. Any pics people post of black suede headliners is fooling you because in person it looks very weird. Pics dont capture the claustrophobic look too. With black it feels like the headliner is laying on your head lol.
In the end I ended up using charcoal gray instead of black.
Well anyways here are some crappy pics I took:

The suede I used is charcoal gray and has a 1/8" foam backing for some extra plushness. The suede resists 30,000 double rubs and is UV resistant!! I removed all the old fabric before applying the new suede. I also painted the headliner trim pieces black for contrast instead of gray.
This whole project took a few months as I wasnt in a hurry to rush this. This is something you want to get right the first time so you dont have regrets with mistakes or imperfections later on. If you rush I guarantee it wont come out perfect because you need to watch out for wrinkles and bubbles and get the suede to conform to the shape of the headliner board. Hardest part was getting the headliner in and out. So many pieces to take apart to take the headliner out the rear doors. You have to get the headliner out at the right angle while at the same time making sure you dont bend it.
If If had to choose to do this project over again I probably wouldnt even though the results were well worth it. The glue.I used is 3M Hi-Strength 90 adhesive which resists temps up to 200 degrees so sagging is no future issue.

Looks good. This is something I plan to get done eventually. Thanks for the tip to go with charcoal, now I'll have something to compare the black I originally had plan to go with.

Here are some more pictures. I also ended up doing the rear deck

Here is one with the flash on. Obviously the suede is much darker than this. I just used the flash to show the luxurious texture of the suede:

as you can see this suede looks pretty damn similar to BMW anthracite headliners found in the M5 and M6. I'm very happy with the outcome. Much better than black suede too like I mentioned previously.
And to answer your question, no I did not do the sun visors "yet". They're extremely hard to do and I haven't found a way yet.

looks great, man!
the only thing i hate about my car is the tan interior. I really wish Infinity would have gone with a black interior on the IP cars. But i would really dig the red that bmw uses....so sexy!
