Minor Crash =(
I have 17" Blizzak WS-50's which are their own dedicated wheels. I got them through tirerack as a wheel/tire package for about $800-. On my second season and they have been rock solid performers. Totally recommended!
why do people have this thing about snow mode. It does absolutely squat at speeds above 12 mph.It is an AWD car if lack of traction is detected it will compensate, forget about snow mode.
Honestly the only time I have ever used snow mode is in situations like this (this is my last G35X)

As the poster said what is really benificial in his case is dedicated winter tires that do give great snow traction and increased ice traction.
Hello everyone, this is my first picture post of my G' and under the assumptions of a "rebirth", I'd like to bring it back up from under the ashes.
The scene: Iced over roads, sport tires, no gas in the tank, snow mode off. This creates a very dangerous condition for the rear tires, with no weight in the back combined with icy roads will easily slip the X.
The story: Coming in late at night, getting off the freeway. The exit itself sees very little maintenance, no salting, and has a very deep slope followed by a sharp 90-100 degree left turn. Slowing down to about 30 MPH, right before the sharp left, I hit a patch of ice that sends the G helplessly skidding towards the wall. The slip indicator goes nuts as I apply as much countersteer and mashed the gas to try to peel it away. In the end, it hit.
Lesson: Winter tires are a valuable safety margin and is a must have, no matter how much driving confidence one might have

Snows absolutely perform better on ice.
& Blizzaks are one of the better ones on ice.
Tire testing, All Seasons vs Winter Tires on ice
Read the conclusion:
"In the end, only today's high-tech studless winter / snow tires have proven to consistently blend good noise comfort along with traction in snow and on ice."
There's also a video with full comparison testing. Watch the cornering test 2/3 through the video, which is exactly what would have saved the day here in this situation.

Excellent video.
On the point of snow tires, inTgr8r and I were talking at the start of the snow season about ice traction on tires after they have been used a couple seasons.
I told him my Blizzaks performed just as good after two years use. Well I am nearing the end of my third year and I do notice a bit less ice traction now although they are still extremely good. They are wearing very well and have lots of tread left yet the sticky compound that is used in these is wearing away. For me I think after four years I would relace them even though the snow traction is fantastic.
I have 37,000 kms on my car now.
I want the best traction I can get for the safety of me and my family.
