The nozzle fans out so you have to be rather close to the surface to get it wet enough for that first layer -- no more than 6" IIRC. While wet it may look like you have splotches but it dries even. I had a bit of slight pooling on one spot but again it dried out evenly.

If you want it to be a semi-permanent solution, then definitely sand down the surface being painted. Otherwise, leave it as smooth as can be so that it can be peeled off whenever you decide to go back to stock.

Home Depot and Lowes sell the stuff. You can get it as a spray, in a tall can or a regular paint cant. They also sell kits where you can mix up your own colors.
Thats the cool thing about it, that whenever you want to go back you can peel that stuff off.
I personally wanted to sand down my grille and spay it with the spray paint but I just didn't want to hassle with the bumper being off the car again and etc.
I guess I'll give this a try and if it doesn't work out for me like i would want it to, then I'll just paint it the way I waned before.

I did the same process on my '05 sedan, but with Duplicolor bumper protector paint. Had the same matte finish and its temporary to get a see how it will look if you wanted permanent. I thought it would last long, but after one car wash, it can easily rub off. Not sure if you've experienced that with that paint, but it took some time to mask it off and put 5 coats atleast. O well, painting it with real paint that sticks well (no primer needed). Posting pics when finito.

Thanks guys.

Overall, with the multiple coats and masking, no more than a couple of hours.

The car has been through daily rain and it looks fine. I don't think it's the same stuff as Duplicolors bumper coating though. This one is basically synthetic rubber.

Word of advise, do not spray bug/tar remover on it because it will mess it up.

i've used plasti dip on my civic before.

i might try to paint the grills on my G and FX soon.

i painted my grill today using soundmikes instructions and it came out sweet. the only difference is that i removed the grill instead of masking the car our. being from miami the weather is unpredictable and i didn't want to have masking tape on the car in a downpour..... thanks mike....
