Soon to Black Out my 08 G35x Sedan....
Hey guys,
About to do some minor upgrades to the G! Right now it's bone stock but I have the "Infiniti" letters on the trunk taken off.
I'm about to black it out....the grille, the rims (plastidip+gloss lol), the tail lights (not too dark though..), the license plate cover, and put some LEDs in the license plate frame.
I know it's nothing huge, but I am pretty excited. This is my second car, and I absolutely love it. I used to have a 05 Chevy Cobalt SS that was fixed up, but I like my G more.
I'll post pictures when I get done with things as I go along, but it might not be for a week or two since it's so dang cold here in KY.
Any suggestions of some little things to do that will make the G better?
Thanks!!

First off welcome to the site and congrats on the upgrade.
secondly maybe you should consider some more quality upgrades. painting your grill and leaving the emblem chrome is a common thing to do and generally looks very good
I would also say skip the plastidipped wheels and just buy some quality aftermarket wheels that are already black. they will have better fitment and look far better than a coat of plastidip on a set of stock wheels. I would also say don't mess with the tails blacking them out is considered pretty ricey in most circles and as you can probably tell from the above post people on this forum are not generally accepting of ricey mods (I am admittedly no exception). either way this is just my .02 its your car and your money so enjoy it man

Here's a couple DIYs that should help w/out going the Plasit-dip route. If you need the cutouts for the taillights let me know and I can get them shipped out.

I didn't ask for sarcasm....
Kwijibo, duke, and blnewt: thanks for the input. I would love to be able to actually buy wheels, but I definitely don't have the money for that lol. I'm only 21 and I'm still in college....that's why I was just planning on plastidipping the OEMs, and I can always take it off.

My .02 as I was in the same boat when I bought my G. I didn't have the money and I couldn't wait. I Plastidipped every piece of chrome on the car and learned the hard way. Plastidip is a fun product to concept your car as it's easily removable. However, the finish fades a bit over time and looks dirty after a while especially on wheels. But if you are itching to do something to your car until you can afford better, consider using the Plastidip as a sort of a primer/undercoat. Then spray a higher quality paint over the Plastidip. I used painters touch by Rustoleum over my Plastidip. It has a much higher quality finish and stood up to more punishment than the Plastidip alone. Since the Plastidip is underneath, it can still be peeled off. Just make sure the Plastidip is thick enough before you use another paint on top otherwise you'll have trouble pealing it off in the future.
I've had my grill done this way for about 2 years now and the satin sheen is still like the day I painted it. My Plastidipped wheels have been replaced with nicer after markets so no more plastidip there. Everything else beside emblems have been redone in vinyl and I'm so much happier with it.
Plastidip is still great for your emblems though. It's a pain to do those with vinyl or any other product. Not impossible, just a pain. Watch some videos as you don't have to mask around each letter/number with Plastidip.
If you're planing on blacking out your door trim and or spoiler, I would highly recommend Vinyl. Order enough to redo mistakes, I made quite a few. Use a heat gun to make sure the Vinyl is brought up to a high enough temp to really activate and adhere the adhesive. Otherwise you risk it pealing and/or bubbling the first summer it's out in the sun. It's tricky to get the vinyl under the door and window seals but a little patience and it'll look great.
Congrats on the new G. It's going to be a heck of a ride. Enjoy it.
