I've never done autocross. I've heard a little about it, but what's the story from your perspective?

What types of things go on, and how much chance is there of hurting my car( )?

 

It's definately the safest environment to push your car to the limit. You generally are the only person on the course, or perhaps 1 or 2 well behind you. You choose how hard to push it, so you can take it easy if you want.

You will get a little more tire and brake wear, but for 5-10 runs at 45-75 it's not like a track day event at Road America! Some people are paranoid about warranty or insurance issues should something happen, but look into it if you are concerned and decide then.

I would suggest watching an event first to see what you think. There are quire a few closer to you, but after this one I mentioned there is just one more this year:
