540i v Audi 2.7TT v G35..

Allright,

Just a quick note as too tomorrow mornings plans. At about 6a.m. Sunday morning Myself and two of my mates wil be trolling doen too Chicago for a little comparo test of our own. I know all the talk about 3-series and Lexus IS300, CTS's etc., but in all honesty I think these two cars ( a 2003 BMW 540i and a 2002 Audi 2.7TT) will be a bit more of a challenge, both in size, driving dynamics and RWD/AWD drivetrains. If anybody sees a D/G 04 G35 Sedan closely followed by these other two Germans heading South on 294 cheer me on, it could be a close one...results too follow.

Cheers.

Re: 540i v Audi 2.7TT v G35..

I recently drove with a 540i from Des Moines to Davenport. We reached speeds upto 140 or so. From 65/70 mph the 540i and my G35C 5AT were even. I think a 6MT should take it. My G is stock except for the Z intake. I thought the Bimmer would take me at the higher speeds. I have pulled away from a stop upto 60 or so with another 540i. Good luck and be safe.

G35 Coupe 5AT, DP, Tire and Wheel Pkg., Aluminum Pedals, Clear Corners, missing turbo

Re: 540i v Audi 2.7TT v G35..

The Results are in!!!

Very close and not a lot in it too be perfectly honest.
Having driven both of these cars 540i and A6 2.7TT I think the real competition for the G35 sedan lies in these models and that in essence the smaller 3 series, A4, Volvo S60 really aren't in the same class as the G35 sedan.
Okay, here's what we found, the G35 pretty much out accelerated the Audi (bear in mind that the 2.7TT is really a larrger version of an S4) at any speed. Suprisingly the 4.0 liter V8 in the Bimmer was really an equal too the G. I thought that it would have out accelerated me, especially in the higher speeds, but it couldn't. The Audi, pretty much lagged behind after about 80/90 mph to a few car lengths adn only really shone at lower speeds. Because of traffic, speeding laws and polic e presence (yes my escort passport went off quite a few times) it was nigh impossible too push these cars too the higher limits, but I'm confident in saying that I have a new respect for the competition and I'm glad I can hold my own with cars that cost up too 20k more than mine did.
On a quick not, during this morning's drive an 04 Grand Prix GTP joined the race and was smoked by all three of us and on the way back from Lake Cook Road exit a very nice looking Merceded Benz SLK430 joined the fun (older guy in menopause methinks) and got left behind by myself and the Bimmer ( the Audi tends too flounder a little after about 80/90 mph). My buddy ( the 540i owner) told me he was considering buying a G sedan after this morning, he said the payments on the Bimmer were kiling him.

Cheers all....Infiniti is in a class of it's own!!!!!!!

Re: 540i v Audi 2.7TT v G35..

nice to know we can hold up with a 540. As far asthe A6 goes, I could have told you you would win before you began. The A6 is a completly different car from the S4. The great thing about the S4 is putting a lot of power into a smaller car. So taking the peppy 2.7TT motor (2nd best option in the A6) and putting it where a 180hp motor normally goes (in the case of the popular 1.8T) you get some nice performance. The 2.7TT 250hp motor in the A6 is certainly more than adequate to move its bulky mass, but is in no means a racer. The S4 also has sport tuned suspension and breaks. Do bear in mind when racing any Audi or Volkswagon with a turbo (or really any turbo car) that very little money put in can net a huge gain. For example, on the 2.7TT motor, a $450 computer chip can gain you 50hp+. now add downpipes and exhaust (total investment for all three under $3000) and your at around 360hp at the crank-for 2003 versions, the 2002 would be getting about 340/350.

Your absolutley right with regard too turbo charged engine cheap upgrades (though you don't see a lot of the newer cars with this kind of power, warranty issues no doubt). Hey, had a question..I'm a stock kind of person and am not really into changing a whole heck of a lot on my cars, but I would like too change the stock tires on my 04 G35 sedan. I'm not particularly impressed with the stock Eagle's so was looking at putting a 235/50 R17 on my stock rim, probably a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Anyone got any feedback on thses tires. I've pretty much had Michelin's on previous cars (Bmw, Audi, 300M) and have had good luck with them, but never tried the A/S sports before.
Tirerack seems too like this brand?..Anyone?

search in the Rims and Tires Section. If you can't find the answer, post a the question there. I'll be interested to know the answer as well.

No bother here but isn't the new A6 just a 2.7T, not a twin? The Owner of my company has one and it just says A6 and 2.7T. Still a nice ride but nt as fast as a G.
