I'm so excited! I've decided on what I will do for break-in: take it up to redline at not quite full throttle making sure I let the car decelerate the engine all the way back down to 2k RPM. I'm going to do this one or two times in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear (with breaks in between) while the engine has very low miles on it, then i'll change the oil right away at 100 or so miles (to dino). THEN I will go easy on it for 1200 miles keeping it below 5k in higher gears, and switch to synthetic at 1.2 or 1.5k.

I've have read over that mototune website before and the only things that make me wonder about it are: 1) he says that you have to do it within the first 20 miles of the engine (mine got flatbedded to the dealer with 30 miles on it) and 2) its a motorcycle website.

Well I'm off to the dealer! 200 mile round trip and I'm going golfing afterwards hopefully so I'll try to post pics later tonight. I'll try and capture the things that strike me as unique so its not just more pictures of a new G (since you all know what that looks like already )

yea i think he just suggests to change it after 20 miles because of metal shavings that could possibly be in the oil from the new engine. He claims it works for cars motorcycles snomobiles etc.. im sure an engines an engine :0)

first impressions

Overview: I love this car. All my complaints are minor and in no way affect my total appreciation for everything about my new G

Dislikes:
1- No redline on the tachometer (yes I know there's a shift light)
2- Tachometer is on the left side of gauge cluster (it's easier to glance at if it's towards the middle of the car)
3- Stereo/climate ***** are on the right side of center console
4- Not enough storage space in center console
5- High pitched engine sounds more like a four cylinder than my WRX. This will take some getting used to but I'm sure it will grow on me, any suggestions for a very deep sounding muffler?
6- Shifting is a little chunky; it seems like you just have to shove it quickly into the next gear to shift smoothly, but perhaps this is the proper way and I am trying to hard because I am used to a lightweight flywheel, very necessary rev-matching, and all-wheel drive. It's just so new I don't want to break it =)
7- Shift **** is very large, which for me makes it slip out of my hand more
8- The dashboard color is just horrible, but this seems to help keep your eyes focused on the gauges.
9- It looks exactly like the sedan (exterior) from certain angles in front of the car
10- Feels like my WRX could beat it by 2 or 3 car lengths up to 60 and then stay ahead after that until about 110 or 120 when the G's areodynamics would allow it to pull ahead (mods will fix this eventually)

Worries:
1- The paint and its potential to chip
2- My lack of RWD experience
3- Mods are expensive
4- I live in Wisconsin and it tends to snow here in winter

Likes:
1- REAR WHEEL DRIVE
2- The engine has so much torque it can spin those gigantic 19" wheels with brand new sticky tires like they are donuts, I actually peeled out by accident a few times
3- It handles like WOW My WRX handled awesome but this is just a completely different experience, diving into turns full speed instead of slowing down before and then accelerating through and out of them.
4- It has stability control that, most importantly, can be turned OFF
5- Perforated leather
6- Golf bags actually fit in the trunk
7- Trunk release button in the tailight
8- Beautiful headlights
9- Very tasteful spoiler that's not visible in the rearview mirror
10- Rear steering (nice little extra feature )
11- You can cruise around in it comfortably without ever knowing it's a sport's car but when you want to go fast it delivers. The WRX always felt like it wanted to go fast, which is fun but I am trying to be more mature now
12- My girlfriend looks super hot sitting in there

Things I look forward to:
1- Pulling into the golf course parking lot (and anywhere for that matter) and people not looking and thinking "oh great here comes a boy-racer with a big fart can on the back of his four-banger"
2- Keeping the exterior/interior clean because the car actually looks good and isn't focused solely on performance
3- The warranty exprining so I can finally get my hands on that engine
