New Owner, Dealership Goofed!
New Owner, Dealership Goofed!
Sorry if this is too long, story of frustration ahead...had to vent!
Got my '03 black 6MT 3 weeks ago from a Chevy dearlership. They put on new Nitto 555's (nice) and new brake pads (found out later) before selling it. Test drives were great, no problems. Drove it off the lot and heard grinding noise from LR brake, but figured it was due to rain. Next day same noise, no better. Pulled the wheel and
GASP! 1 caliper bolt missing, the other backed out 1/8"! Caliper was grinding on rotor. The Chevy dealer admitted to doing the brakes so had it towed back, they replaced the bolt and said all was good now.
It gets worse. Now that the grinding was gone, I could hear popping from the RF suspension under moderate braking. Still under warranty, took it to Infiniti service on 11/27. They said it needs the compression rod replaced. OK, part ordered...replaced on 11/28. Went to drive it off the lot and still making the same popping noise. Guess they didn't test drive when they were done. So on 11/29 they discover the noise is coming from the RF caliper because the monkey mechanic that did the brake job at the other dealership cross-threaded a caliper bolt.
Solution: the Chevy dealership is paying for a new set of Brembos ($1,400) but I'm having Infiniti do the work. To top it off, the parts won't be in until Monday 12/4, so I'm stuck in a ragged out Mazda 6 sedan rental for the weekend. 1 whole week w/o the G!
I guess it could always be worse, but 'cmon. My wife could've done a better brake job than those morons at Chevy!

I guess in hindsight, you may have wanted an Infiniti dealer to check things out and make the necessary repairs and inspections (initially b4 purchase)
As you say, that story could have had a much worse ending.....
These days it's best to stay on your toes.....lol. You just never know when the next 'moron' might strike.
Good luck, and just in case they forget to test drive it again, have them take you for a test drive b4 you take it back on the 4th.
She's a treat to drive, and you'll love her when she's finally roadworthy.
Colin.
