New 07 G35 6MT Coupe

Hi I just got my G coupe last Friday!! The car is still brand new and I am loving it!! This is my first manual car and I'm still not really used to the clutch and everything yet. so I do stalled once or twice a day I know it's embarrassing but I'm still proud to be the G owner. I was wondering if I'd kill my car one day if I keep on stall the car once or twice a day?! the engine does sounds different sometimes after I stall it. Damn... I am soo worry now...

Congrats, Kev G35, on your new G and welcome to these 'Driver boards. Don't worry about the stalling issue. We have all been at one time or another. After you get more acquainted with your 6MT, you'll be driving like a champ in short time. Heck, after having driven a manual for some 30 years, I even stall occasionally. Relax and enjoy your new baby.

Thanks Msedanman, I just realized that everytime I done drove my car then I smell something is burning which I'm assuming it's the clutch! well, it's not very strong but noticeable. Am I killing the car slowly?

You may be riding the clutch some which will produce a little smell.

Be sure the clutch is not depressed at all when you are at speed.

You may go through your first clutch a little faster than some since you are not used to driving a manual, but it is highly unlikely that you are doing any long term damage.

I'm a new G owner as well and have been driving a manual for 13+ years. I am having a little trouble getting the 1-2 shift down as smoothly as I would like, but it will get better as we learn the car.

Hi, thanks for your advise!! I really need a "Stick Shift 101".. lol.. anyways, what do you mean by "Be sure the clutch is not depressed at all when you are at speed."?? Do you mind to explain that a little clearly? Thanks!!!

Some people have a habit of leaving their foot on the clutch while driving. Somtimes this results in the clutch being slightly depressed, meaning that you are actually holding in the clutch just slightly while driving.
This doesn't really affect your driving, but it will burn your clutch a little causing a slight burning smell and premature wear on your clutch.

Easy answer - If you are not changing gears keep your foot completely off of the clutch.

I tend to keep my foot on the clutch until I get up to crusing speed, but I make sure that I am not pressing in on the clutch at all.

Hopefully that clears things up.
