Engine braking...when decellerating?

anybody feel this when they get off the gas to slow down? it feelslike the engine gears the car down to a slow speed.... is it me ? or does this car actually have something like this?

i'm pretty sure that's the tourque converter. in our murano, it tends to do a lot of engine braking and then once it gets below about 10MPH, it unlocks and you get this surge feeling
