Old Guy Getting Younger by the Minute
Old Guy Getting Younger by the Minute
Wow ! What a great site. Thanks to all the moderators and contributors.
As a new owner of a 2007 G35x let me introduce myself. I'm an old guy that decided to give himself a 60th B-Day present and subsequently ordered and recently took delivery of a new ride. After driving it for a few weeks I must admit that the new technologies (and power) are definitely awesome.
Although I have had many cars in between, the last "muscle" car that I had was a 1968 Olds 4-4-2 that, when launched, was like a Naval Destroyer coming out of heavy water. Sounds of exhaust, the carburator barrels opening up, air intake, burning rubber, smoke etc. would bring people running from blocks around. All of this while going from zero to 60mph in about 7 seconds. By the way, you didn't want to be turning any corners while doing this !
So needless to say, after driving the G, the memories of the capabilities of the 1960's muscle cars are, to me anyways, getting more distant by the minute. I am enjoying the terrific power and the subtle but "throaty" exhaust, the handling, the quiet and smooth ride, and the new technologies (both luxury and safety) that this vehicle has. After "test driving" many 2007 sport sedans (Cadillac CTS, Acura TL, Lexus IS350, Lexus ES350, Lexus IS250 AWD, BMW 330i, BMW 335i and Mercedes C350) it was obvious that the G35x was the "best Bang for the buck". I have NOT been disappointed yet. Little things that I didn't notice before keep on impressing me. Like the rear doors opening to almost 90 degrees to allow easier access and exit etc. (Try that in a Lexus IS series !!).
Keep up the great work with this forum. I look forward to being a member for many years to come.

Well I gotta tell you Prairie Boy at 60 years old you are not the oldest guy on this board. Pretty old but not the oldest ! ! At 63 yrs. I take delivery soon of my G35 Serengeti Sand / Wheat. I too went through the drag racing scene but nothing I ever owned came close to the G 35 at 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds. Can't wait ! !

I am an old guy at 63 that also raced in the 60's but also in the past few years with my 1999 Camaro SS SLP Edition. Stock it Dyno'd at 327 RW HP with 344 Ft-lbs of torque. At the track (Cedar Falls, IA), I turned a 12.6 ET at 111 Mph on drag radials. This is a very quick car. The G35s doesn't have the raw torque of the Camaro but because of it's features, it is a lot more fun to drive. For those of you who come up against any Camaro Z28 1999 or newer, I would save the wear and tear and not attempt to race them - you will lose. This also holds true for the Pontiac Firebirds.

Thanks everybody for all the kind words. I'm living the "dream" once again !
Now, for you old guys (and younger ones too) I want you to try to imagine the incident that happened to me last Friday evening. Note: After you read this, close your eyes, sit back and imagine.
It has been very hot up here for the last couple of weeks (for Saskatchewan anyways). So Friday evening around 8:30pm it cooled off considerably and I told my wife that I was just going out cruisin' in the G. After checking out the various new car lots, I got onto our freeway (not those 12 laners or anything like that) that we call Circle Drive. Not much traffic. I pull up to a set of stop lights, sun roof open, driver's side window down, Michael Buble playing on the SOW, totally realaxing. A new, red Mustang GT convertible that had been behind me, pulls out of the lane that I'm in and comes up beside me. Five people in the car, 2 guys in the front and 3 giggling girls in the back. Got the picture so far?
"HEY GRAWMPA, WANT A RACE ?" the guy in the passenger's side yells. Sure, I said but I don't want to take it over 80 because it's still pretty new. "Don't worry you can quit anytime you like." he said with laughter echoing around him.
I tap the G into DS mode, the light changes yellow, he starts "brake torquing" the Mustang, and when the light changes to green we both floor it. Wow, to hear the G open up like that was a sound that I won't forget for a long time, and I don't think that the owner of the Mustang will either. It was basically no contest. I was so far ahead, I could see him in my rear-view mirror. I slowed down and pulled up to the next set of lights which were red(Preston Avenue, about a 1/2 mile from where we took off from) thinking that he would pull up beside me and we would talk. He didn't. Actually, he got into the left hand turning lane and never said a word. No giggles either.
I loved it !!

Nice! Welcome and congrats on the new ride! The "G" is really the way to go. I know the feeling, I have mine for about 8 months now and I still have a smile on my face everytime I take it for a drive.
