Upgrade: Blue Slate '08 G35X

I just picked up my '08 G35x two days ago after a long month of waiting. It's exactly what I wanted: Blue Slate, Graphite interior w\ Rosewood trim, Premium & Nav packages, plus other small features. And better yet, I got it for less than invoice.

To say that I've upgraded is a complete understatement. I used to have a '99 VW Beetle. This G35x is worlds beyond that car in every way (except being able to fold down the rear seat). I've been "breaking it in" and it still is faster and considerably more responsive without going over 3500RPM. Needless to say, I'm anxious to drop the pedal to the floor and make the G sweat a little bit.

I plan on ordering up the Nismo chin spoiler today and plan to get it tinted in the coming weeks. I'm also thinking about getting the ClearBra/ScotchGuarding done? Is it worth it and is it pretty transparent to the normal eye? I don't want it to look like the plastic on grandma's couch. And will they do it to the chin spoiler if I wait until that is installed?

Once I sell the ol' bug, I'll be picking up some 19's or 20's for summer rims. There is a lot of good info about rims in this forum. Thanks to all that provide feedback and info on to all categories of this forum; you guys do a stellar job!

The photographer in me is itching to get in some photos, so hopefully I'll have time to take some in the coming weeks. I'll definitely hook the forum up with some sweet shots once I get all of the accessories on.

Lastly, are there any other Twin Cities/Minn G35 drivers out there?

- Rousey

p.s. Thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome, cheers, and congrats on the purchase and definitely get some pictures up asap. Do a little searching on the break in, as there are two different schools of thought on how to treat the car.

Congratulations! After driving my G35, I won't be buying another car for a looooong time. I made sure I got everything I wanted (premium, nav, tech) and the colors and everything. Welcome to the club!

Thanks for the welcoming.

I'll take a look through the forums to find out about the "break in" of the G. Thanks.

Welcome ... you have excellent taste in colors!

As for the clear bra, you have to kinda weight the pros and cons for yourself. Will you be OK if the front end looks a little "sand blasted" or pitted after a few years?

I have a few pics on my blueslate from the early days with the clear bra installed here:

Thanks, Terry, for the link and info. I'm pretty sure that I'll be going with the ClearBra. With sandblasting from the sand and salt here in Minn duriing the winter/spring months, I think I'd go crazy without it. I'm going to wait until I get my front lip spoiler installed and get that done along with the rest of the front end/lights/mirrors/etc.

Aeson/Terry,
Yup, definitely diggin the color scheme. I guess great minds think alike!

Not "schools" in the literal sense, but basically two different mindsets on how a car should be treated in the first 1200 miles. Some believe in following the manual's suggested break-in process: don't go over 4000RMP and vary your RPMs during your drive (read: don't use cruise control). Others believe that babying the car for the first 1200 is not necessary and may actually have a negative impact on long term performance: improperly broken in rings and poorly trained "intelligent" engine control. There are also differing opinions on whether to change the oil after the first 1000 miles versus waiting until 3750mi.

p.s. thanks for the congrats
