New G-Sedan Owner Here

Hi All,

I just purchased a slightly used 2007 G35x Sedan, and so far I am loving it. It replaces an 03 Mazda 6s that was nothing but trouble (engine replaced at 60k).

Just curious, what kind of maintenance is required on the G. I know it's reliable, but is it one of those just change the oil every now and then and it'll last forever, or do you really need to follow the maintenance schedule? And what are the opinions on synthetic and how long can you go between changes?

Thanks in advance.

First of all, welcome and nice choice.

Second, go to the Tech 07 Sedan section and search. IMO you should follow your maint sched pretty closely, but you can save a lot of money doing things for yourself.

Absolutely agree with you Swiv! Welcome to the forums BTW! I would certainly do your regular oil changes and PM maintenance checks EVERY 3-4K. Maybe more regularly at first just to be on top of it.
And BTW, I am not sure if asking a question like that (do you REALLY have to follow recommended maintence?) is a great way to introduce yourself, ESPECIALLY after saying your 03 6 was nothing but trouble and had a heart transplant at 60K. Kinda sounds like you might have shunned reg maintence on the 6 too?? Just sounds bad hand-in-hand like that.
Reminds me a little of the Newbies asking if you really HAVE to use premium fuel in the G....BTW YES! No you dont HAVE to, but if you have probs @ 60k b/c you didn't follow maintenance or use premium, kinda like smoking when your pregnant. You never know if you could have prevented those problems by just doing what you shoulda done in the first place.
Just some friendly advice. Hate for you to get flamed on your way in. Oh, and we LOVE pics!

Thanks for the replies.

I actually took very good care of the 6, following the maintenance schedule religiously. That turned out to be very expensive, and apparently useless in my case. The engine in that car was awful, there was a time when I was going through ignition coils on a monthly basis. That's what prompted me to choose a true import, there was too much domestic in the 6 (the ford v6 to start...). Anyways, I asked the question after hearing all those stories from Camry owners who just changed oil every now and then and could drive those things forever.

I guess I shouldn't let that one bad experience stray me, and plan to follow the maintenance schedule for the G, but also plan to switch over to synthetic at the next change and extend the OCI a bit.

Seems like this is a nice forum here, lots of knowledge people. I'm really looking forward to being a part of the community, and enjoying my G of course!

I understand. When you get a true lemon, (or a Mazda, lol, j/k, the Speed 6 was my runner up actually. Couldnt do it with all the drive axle probs I was hearing about though. I made the right decision, LOVE my G!) nothing you can do make it right. Sorry you had a bad experience after doing what you are supposed to. I would still recommend keeping you scheduled maint up on the G. I would imagine it would still run like a dream if you didn't monitor it constantly. However, MOST of us on the Driver wouldn't DREAM of skimping on the maint., we are too....hummm, good word... addicted?? OCD?? obsessed?? Anyway, you get the idea. Most of us feel the G deserves ONLY the best.
I think synthetic is a good way to pamper your G. I have no doubt you will fall head over heels for it.
I love this forum. Unlike some others I have been involved in with previous vehicles, this one seems a little less convoluted. Wild and silly at times, but ppl dont usually treat you like a stupid idiot when you need an answer. Very helpful. Enjoy the Driver! and your G!
