Selling CTS-V for G35X
Selling CTS-V for G35X
New member here, dropping in with some questions and/or advice before I sell my old car for a G.
I have a 2004 CTS-V, and looking to sell it for a 2007 IP G35x. I haven't found quite the right car yet, but I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger.
My CTS-V is plenty fast, and felt quite a bit faster (in a straight line) than the last G35x I test drove, I also really like the exhaust note (youtube user "speedogomer" for exhaust clips, the VQ sounds good, but I'll miss the pushrod V8) and looks of the V... but that's really all it has going for it.
It's an early 2000's GM product so the build quality is crap, the navigation button's color is peeling off, as is various parts of trim in the car, the trim also rattles in the dash, the rear sail panels (inside of the C pillars) are falling down, and the leather is as stiff and luxurious as vinyl. .It's RWD and I live in snow country with a 20 mile commute over windy, hilly, seldom plowed back roads. Despite being a Cadillac the ride is very harsh in the V, and with my roads the car rattles my spine over every bump. The 6 speed is clunky, and unrefined, and bangs and bucks when you change gear under hard throttle.... and worst of all it's been very unreliable. I've owned the car 2 years, from 35K to 65K miles and had to replace the radiator, water pump, clutch, slave cylinder, rear differential bushing, rear trailing arms, 1 rear hub, 2 TPMS... most all on separate trips to the dealer (car was under CPO warranty until 2 months ago).
The CTS-V theoretically is a faster car than the G35x... but in the real world I'm sure the G would be faster. The V s just rides too rough, is too unreliable, and is just not as good of a car as the G. I could actually drive my 05 WRX (that I sold for the V) faster than the V, just because the V bucks like a bronco on anything other than smooth tarmac.
So, anyone else downgrade in power to get a G and find that it was actually an upgrade?

Actually every thing I listed that was wrong, or that has gone wrong, is a common problem for the V's. Search over at Cadillacforums.com and you'll see almost every first gen V owner buys an extended warranty when the factory one wears out... You know it's an unreliable car when buying an extended warranty is mandatory.
I rather have the G then the CTS with so many problems. AWD will def win over the RWD since you said you live in state with lots of snow and so on. The G35x is amazing in snow, has so many options for the price.
I'd like a G37 over the 35, but I'm not looking to spend that much, and I don't want to wait through another winter with the V. It's at 66K miles, and if I wait another year, it'll be over 80K miles, and really start to lose value. I'll have the V paid off in 2 months, and I'm planning on ditching it then.

My brother has an 04 CTS-V and I must say it's a really nice car and pretty fast too, but his car has the same issues on the interior, everything is peeling and it looks pretty bad. He's actually going to trade for the new CTS-V coupe since he just bought his lady a new Tahoe for the kids.
Good choice on the X.

I narrowed it down to the G35X after looking for an AWD car, I found for the same price, year, and mileage, the Infiniti offered more power and features than the Merc's, BM's, and Audi's. The only other car I considered was a old x-type, but only because a low mileage one can be had for less than $14-15K, my friend has one and it's plenty nice, but not exactly the greatest reputation for reliability or build quality.
I haven't really heard many horror stories with the second gen G, unlike the Cadillac which is expected to to have serious mechanical problems before 60K miles.
