Need new car
Hi everyone! Im looking for a new car and came across some very attractive 2007 G35 Coupes. They seem to have everything I could ever want in a car and they're relatively cheap compared to other cars I've been looking at. I was wondering if any of you have any experience driving your G35 in the snow. I've been driving a 1999 Mustang v6 for the past 3 years (my first car) in the Chicagoland area, so I know how to drive a rear-wheel powered car in the snow. I am a full-time student and have a part-time job, so mostly I'll be commuting 5 minutes on the Expressway to College and about 15 on a busy road to work. I also need to know any reliability issues with the G35. Any regular maintenance tips (oil changes ect) are welcome.
BTW, I would be getting the 5spd auto transmission, my mom doesn't know how to drive manual and she's concerned that she might need to drive my car one day and won't be able to. Since she is nice enough to lease the car in her name and get a loan for me, I figure I could at least compromise with the transmission.
The Gs are pretty reliable. some of the 6mt guys have oil consumption problems... I think ive heard of 1 maybe 2 5AT having that issue. Oil change intervals depend on your driving habits/type of commute. 3750 for a lot of city driving and up to 7500 on all highway driving(per owners manual).
Tires do go pretty fast on this car. As far as driving in the snow, we have a lot of members that live in the snow including Canadian drivers so yuo may get a beter response on snow from one of the sub-region forums. From what I rmember, they advise that a good set of dedicated winters will get you through the winter. Just deactivate VDC and some put sand bags in their trunk so the weight can help keep traction down.

Cool, and any thoughts on the tiptronic 5spd? Will I break my transmission if I use it too much? I know not to let the engine rev too high before shifting. I love Manual, but as I said, my mom would feel more secure with the auto.
Car is driveable in the snow, but you have to have winter tires. So budget that in right now.
Don't even think about trying to drive through the winter with regular summer tires that will probably come on the car. You might be able to get away with good all season tires.

Just bought mine 3.5 months ago. Really dreading on driving it in the winter. Luckily when I bought mine it came with brand new winter tires (odd? yea i know lol) But some of the guys on here say it helps to put at least 50lbs of sand in the back so I'll take their word for it.
+1 for being in the chicagoland area!!!!
