Added another car to the stable.

New owner of a 2004 G35 Coupe. Besides the G35 I have a BMW X5 and two Lotus. I had an 82 911 SC Targa but when the kids came along I needed something a little bigger.

The G35 handle a lot better then the Porsche, but not quite as neutral as the Lotuses. But the Lotuses are a bear to drive in the city because they are so short (42" from the ground to the top of the roof) and neither are air condition.

The car was dealer service it entire life, it even has an Infiniti label battery. But from some of the missing pieces that I notice on the car I doubt that I will let a dealer continue to service the car. Missing pieces includes the splash pan and sheet metal screws used to secure the wheel liners to the front bumper a couple of screw for securing the wiring harness to the engine for the injectors or COP. There's a clunk from the left wheel side, and the dealer tried fixing it with a new sway bar link, but it's still there. I think it's the inner tie rod so that will be on my to do list. Replaced the two belts since one was split. Any way looking to contribute to the forum and learn about the G35 from the forum.

The X5 is the tow vehicle for the jet boat and jetski. It also have a Thule roof cargo box for my skis and the kids ski or snowboard as well as a Saris ride on bike carrier that we use with the tow hitch.

Welcome to the forum.

Left side clunking noise is probably bad compression rod bushing.

Is it the bushing that can be replace with either a similar bushing or a poly bushing or is it better to replace the compression rod so that you replace the ball joint at the other end of the compression rod.

If it is just the bushing that normally wears, has anyone replace it with a poly bushing?

Clunking sound is only heard over uneven surfaces not under braking.

Is there a way to test the bushing such as placing a pry bar somewhere and note any movement?

Edit:

Anyone use this kit to repair a compression rod instead of buying a new rod?

Picture of the garage queen that I sold after owning it for 10 years. Had 64,000 miles when I sold it.
