New to the G35

Hello People,

So i would just like to hear your thoughts on this, i am looking into buying a G35 coupe maybe 06 model. I want to use it for commuting to work and back which is roughly 70km each way so most of the driving will be highway. Ive seen different views on the gas mileage some people say its poor and some say its half decent.

I am 31 years old and i am driving a Mazda cx5 right now but i want a nice fun fast car on the side for commuting to work and Ive always liked the look of these beauties. I know i will not get the mileage i get with the cx5 but do you guys think its a good idea for me to get a G35 or do you think it will put a huge hole in my wallet.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

I do apologize if there has already been a thread created like this.

welcome to the community.

The gas mileage varies upon driver it seems.I myself do a lot of city driving (stop and go) and I get roughly 17.6mpg.It cost me $40+ every week and 2 days maybe, not as bad to me but I've seen better. Also mine isn't completely stock so that could be a difference

Of course its gonna be needy and put a hole in yer wallet. Its an old car that needs expensive parts and may or may not have been beaten the **** out of. Tires don't last long (they're expensive too), takes premium and you get bad mpg.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yeah i know shes gonna be a thirsty car just wondered how it is on the highway but i guess its all to do with how you drive it also, i can see it being one of those cars when you cant help but put your foot down all the time.

There is so many mixed reviews when it comes to the reliability of these cars also.

Drive train wise, very reliable. Suspension, interior material/finishes and electronics not so much

Suspension bushings, Bose working/not working (especially left speakers not working when playing cds but also sometimes all out failure). Perforated material inside car falling off, ask about oil consumption.

The updated gps disc for the 2005 is $150 so make sure to ask the current owner if it's been updated.

These are really good cars. I've had an automatic and now I have a 6mt, both coupes. You must remember it's a sport coupe a Gran Tourer if you will so gas mileage in city driving wont be something to write home about. However highway driving won't be so bad. As far as the cars condition, make sure you buy one with as little miles as your pocket can afford (less miles means more likely it was a weekend car) and you'll appreciate it more. The suspension is good stock but, a minor drop (coilovers aren't needed) and a nice set of 20's wearing 245 35 r20's and 275 or 285 30 r20's and the car handles waaay better. The interior is very nice and a joy to be in. On long journeys you wont feel cramped and the spirited driving will keep you smiling the whole way there. I haven't had any problems from my stereo system but, I'm upgrading it anyway (I already have my new components). Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Find one in excellent condition and you won't regret it.

To combat the oil consumption issue you either keep a couple bottles of oil in your trunk and check your oil every so often or you can have the engine rebuilt with new pistons and connecting rods (the rods are the weak link in the motor). I've driven more expensive cars but, I love my G. I get complements everywhere I go. All in all it's a damn good car. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

Again thanks fellas for the replies, some real good info here.

Do the brake pads wear down quickly? Again I've seen mixed reviews about them not lasting a long time. Mind you its easy enough to install new ones but i guess it can get pretty costly.

Thumbs up More info

The rear brakes will wear quicker than the front due to the VDC and yes a lot of people have installed catch cans and say their are some benefits.
