New (to me) 07 G35x in OH
Hiya folks
Just brought my new/used 07 G35x home. My 02 Escape finally blew up, and while I was looking for a replacement my neighbor let me drive her 3.5l Altima. That thing is a beater in sad shape, yet it got up and boogied. That got me thinking about which way to go for my next vehicle. The kids are older now and neither one is still playing sports, so hauling gear around isn't necessary (and we have a minivan for that anyway).
So I started looking at fun to drive sedans. Of course the first car that pops up is the 3 Series, and my sister used to have an IS250 so I added the IS350 to the search. Then there are the CTS with the 3.6l DI and the CLK. Finally, the G. I had no idea that Infiniti made such a car (hey, I'm old and a motorcycle guy, not a car guy). To stay within my budget (NO PAYMENTS) I was looking at 2007-2010 model years.
To the test drives!
IS350: no rear seat room. That car should be a sports car. Plus none in my price range.
CTS: found 1 with the DI engine, it was cheap but beaten up. Best interior by far, almost pulled the trigger figuring to use remainder of budget to fix it. Too much work.
CLK: found a BEAUTIFUL specimen, but it is obviously the bargain Benz. Too plastic-y inside.
3 Series: it got interesting here. 325s and 328s made the radar, but the 335 was tops. Found 2 in my price range, drove them both. Stellar performers. Boring as hell interiors. Both felt off mechanically when I drove them.
G: Drove 3 of them. Damn near on par with the 335 performance-wise, interiors almost on par with the Caddy.
I decided on a G35x, preferably with the Sports package. Found one, it sold before I could get to it. Found another, too expensive. Found a few x's and settled on the lowest mileage one (under 100k).
So now there's a black on black G35x with nav and Bose in my driveway (and a crazy bitchin Viper alarm setup). I'm still getting used to the hinged gas pedal - gotta change over 30 years of habit there. So many doodads to figure out, and no owner's manual just the quick start. Driver's door is misaligned (sagging), but I'm going to try shimming it this weekend. Got a list of other stuff I want to do, both maintenance and fun/performance oriented.
No used car is perfect, but hopefully in a few months mine will be perfect for me.
