New Member Check In

Hi folks, glad to be here, this is a great and informative forum. I thought I'd check in and ask a couple of questions for the pros out there:

My G:
-2006 G35 Coupe
-78k miles
-I bought it 3.5 years ago, but had loaned it to my father for the past 2 years and recently got it back.
-Has new wheels, tires, performance brakes, sensors, freshly tuned up, new stereo head, had it repainted 2 years ago as well.

Questions:
-Front driver seat is starting to wear badly in the lower left area, has anyone done a leather repair? If so, which products were used?
-I have the "intelligent" key (twist ignition with a transponder) set-up but want a spare. What are my options with this model? Dealer wants $130 to program and $200 for the FOB; I know this is a tricky one, but I have to think there is a lesser cost alternative, no?
-I do Mobile One synthetic every 4k for oil changes...is that my best bet?

Thanks-Bill

Welcome. The front seat tear is a known problem. You can find threads detailing repairs to it here.

As for the fob, you can get an eBay fob and have a locksmith copy the codes afaik. Ask your local locksmith.

Hello and welcome!

I don't have an answer for the first two questions, but I've been using M1 5w-30 at 5k mile intervals and haven't had an issue. I would recommend getting a FREE oil analysis kit from BlackStone labs, then send a sample in after your next oil change (the actual analysis is $30, but they don't charge to mail you the kit). That will tell you if your engine has any abnormal wear, and if you had much life left on the oil when you changed it. I used to do 3k mile changes but my blackstone reports showed I could probably double that without any added wear, so I went to 5k.
