Just bought an '05 G35x for my son last night for his upcoming 16th birthday. I'm a big forum user for all my vehicles and hobbies, it's a great place to learn. Looking forward to learning more about this fine car.

Congratulations! These are great first cars because not only are they fun to drive, they are relatively straightforward to work on which makes for a good learning experience. All the info on this site makes things even easier since every maintenance item and performance mod has been documented many times over.
My advice to him is to save money for when things inevitably need replacing! Even a reliable car like this one will have issues as it gets up there in age. Mod are great, but learning the ins and outs of your car by caring for and maintaining it makes upgrades that much more rewarding.

Thanks to all. He chose the car because in Japan it's known as the Skyline which he has liked for some time. Urbanengineer - it's the "X" model so it's AWD. That was a necessity for where we live, it's not rural but it's unincorporated which means everyone else's streets are plowed and dry before we get dug out. Our family now is ALL either 4x4 or AWD so there's no reason to be snowed in! I agree about the straightforward design of the car, it's well thought out and well made, already making a list of things it needs which seems to be more maintenance items than anything else.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Your son is very lucky to have a great dad that's involved in his life. Like I tell everyone that joins but you probably already know this, take care of his new baby and she'll take care of him. We are the premiere site for all things G so we hope you and he learn a lot here and also that you both enjoy your stay for as long as you're around. Welcome to the family and enjoy the new G!
