After installing $800 in parts and 3 weeks off the road, car is still not registered due to failing safety lol.... Serpentine belt tensioner is making bad sounds. These new safety regulations doesnt make much sense. Anyways just ranting.

What kind of safety inspection are they making you people do?
Belt tensioners are SUPER easy btw, jack up and support the front and remove the skid plate plastic cover, loosen the nut in the center of the pulley, loosen the tension nut right below it (it's a draw stud going through the back of the pulley you can't miss it) then remove the pulley center bolt all the way and it comes right off. Rinse/repeat for the other tensioner on the A/C.
Hardest part is just getting the belt tensioned properly again if you use a new belt, typically I have to readjust again after a week because a new belt stretches a little over the first 100 or so miles.
Thanks for the tip to diy the belt pulley. I have done pulleys on 5 cars before. Im more worried about the below freezing temps and fingers :-)
The safety test in ontario is very comprehensive..
Its basically a 93 page manual how to fail a car from being registered. Its all about getting as many middle aged cars off the road once it changes owner. Most owners skimp on maintenance unless its absolutely neccesary.
