New To Post, 2006 G35x Straight Pipe Exhaust, Stg 2 Takeda Intake, Double Din Stereo
Hello G35Driver.com Members,
I've been following this forum for some time but finally have begun doing some work to my 2006 G35x.
So far, I had a local shop straight pipe the exhaust after the muffler bracket cracked on a road trip last summer, and this past weekend I added a Takeda AFE Power Stage 2 Dry S Pro intake system.
Looking forward to adding Bilstein shocks, new performance sway-bars, a 5/16" plenum spacer, MREV2, oil catch can, and maybe Akebono brakes w. 18"x8" rims, in the coming year.
The G35 came out when I graduated high school, and it was the car I absolutely wanted in college. About 5 years ago I picked up my '06 G35x used from a Ford dealership in rural MN, for just over $10K at the time. When I bought it, it had ~74K on the odometer, and now I'm right at 125K. My plan is to drive this car into the ground, since it is fully paid off, and I'm just going to sweat this asset while slowly making it into the car of my dreams.
I realize there are a lot of things I could do to modify the stance and appearance of my G35, but I love the versatility of the AWD and the stock 17" wheels are surprisingly smooth riding v. my friends with larger rims on their cars. I also use my vehicle to get into the mountains around the Pacific North West, so I don't intend to ever lower the vehicle, or if I do, not by much. So, for now with the subtle upgrades, I have a fund albeit loud little sleeper sedan which easily keeps up with and beats most of the non-M or mom-AMG BMW's and Mercedes, which seem to be the standard go-to sport sedan where I live.
My butt dyno indicates that the two performance mods have added real horsepower, and I now have ample torque in the mid range to let the tail get a little loose when I choose. Truly different driving experience for less than $500 all-in. Granted what I did is not 50 state legal. I haven't really timed the 0-60, but whereas it used to be a hair over 6 seconds, I think I'm easily pushing low ~5.3 seconds now, as I can match and beat HR G37s.
