cold air with heater running 04 g35
Hoping someone can help. I have an 04 G35 that blows cold air on the driver side when I have the heater on. I thought it was the blend door actuator so went ahead and bought one, after replacing it which was not easy at all, nothing changed!!! Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? Thanks in advance
These cars are known to be challenging to bleed the cooling system. If you look at the engine bay, the heater hoses are routed UP and OVER the engine block. This makes them susceptible to getting an air pocket, typically after work is done on the cooling system.
There is a bleeder port on the passenger side heater hose to help you bleed/purge air from the system. I'd highly recommend the Z1 bleeder. Concept Z also has one now too!
I got a little creative bleeding the system. I'd used the lisle funnel, but I felt like I still had some air in the system. With this setup I had all the air out in minutes. Gravity ftw

I don't think your issue is with the heater core itself, although it would never hurt to flush it out like someone has already suggested. If it's blowing hot air and it's not overheating, then there isn't any air trapped in the system. You could just have blockage in the air vent system itself. Whenever you run the a/c, does it blow cold air out of that same side that it's not blowing heat out of?
You could check to see if you may of shut the airflow off to those vents. Something that may be plainly obvious, can also be easily overlooked. It happens to the best of us. Also check the climate control,it's possible that you only have the temp set on high on the passenger side and not the driver's side. If it's blowing hot air then the heater core is working. It wouldn't blow any hot air at all if it was clogged up or if there was any amount of air in it. Also check the cabin air filter, it is often neglected. I just bought my G35X 2 months ago. I checked the cabin filter by accident. I was running some wires to the battery to install a system. That's when I saw where it was located. It was filthy, caked with dirt, leaves and debris. I have noticed that there is now better airflow.

Hey all thank you so much for the suggestions, im taking my car to the shop next week but i'll definitely try everything I can before i take it. Honestly i haven't seen anyone else with this issue so if i figure it out i'll post the solution to my problem. Btw i do hear some water running on the driver side every time i drive off. Do any of you have any idea what that might be? Thanks again!!
You have a blend issue, you're obviously getting hot air into the cabin and thus the heater core doesn't have air trapped in it. You might also have PHYSICAL BLOCKAGE in the ductwork. Does it feel like the duct blows the correct amount of air when you put it on a different temperature?
Also just to verify, don't be offended by the simplicity of the question. There is a damper on the vent to actually shut off airflow, it's in the open position (blowing the correct volume of air) yes?
Also, most G35 have DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM meaning you can independently control the temperature to either the passenger or driver side, there is a button on the AC controller that says DUAL and when you press it you can change the temp for either the driver or passenger. VERIFY IT'S NOT SET ON INDEPENDENT CONTROL, you can either have the system control both locked together, or independently. First press of the DUAL button switches to driver seat control and it says DRIVER on the display, second press controls passenger seat and it displays PASSENGER, third press controls both and will display DRIVER/PASSENGER.
If you have the correct volume of air but it just doesn't push hot air out of some of the vents it's 100% definitely a blend issue. Whether it's the damper, blockage, or something else remains to be seen though.
As long as there is actually air blowing from the vent but just not the correct temp, it's not an airflow issue with the damper, and it's not a dual climate set to a hot driver temp, then you possibly have a damper issue within the the damper box itself.
To get an idea of EXACTLY HOW the system works, one of our users, Speedkar9 did a great video tearing apart and explaining exactly how the AC system works. At 10:20 in the video he covers the independent heat/cool blend actuator. This it technically a non-serviceable part due to individual components not being available, however you can always salvage a donor and replace specific parts without needing to tear your entire dash apart to replace the whole unit.
There is also a SELF-DIAGNOSIS mode you can put the controller into, this is covered on page 51 of section ATC - Automatic Air Conditioner in the Factory Service Manual (FSM).
