Rear axle clicking
Rear axle clicking
There is clicking coming from the rear of my car and I came to the conclusion it was the axle shaft that has a tsb, I took them out cleaned them with brake cleaner and then applied lock tight which is supposed to work because I didn’t have any grease on hand. I did this and the clicking still persists. I don’t think it’s as loud but still audible. It almost sounds like there’s a plastic bag blowing in the wind. Also, the sound is most prevalent when going anywhere from 40-50 mph. Is it the axles or axle bearing?
Sounds like you've got bad outer axle bearings, one or both. You have to have a way to press the hubs in after you take them off as they aren't an assembly like the front. I'm about to do mine as I can hear a sort of whirring noise if the radio isn't on. You can get Timkens from Rockauto pretty cheap if you don't want to go OEM.
That's not axle click, axle click happens ONE TIME when you first drive the car for the day usually. I heard that sound for months before I pulled apart the axles and put grease on the mating face of it.
Jack up your car and spin the wheels by hand and find out where the sound is coming from, sounds to me like a rear axle CV joint is going to crap, if you can see a tear in the boot that will pretty much confirm it without even spinning the wheel.
