Allow myself to introduce ...myself

Thats my typical newbie thread title (stolen line from Austin Powers).

Hi Everyone,
I'm not an official G35 owner yet, I still have yet to purchase one. However, its coming from a family member, so its already in my possession. Taking it for a couple days on a test drive and see what all it needs before I actually pay for it. 2008 Sedan, Base, Auto.
I put a new battery in it today, the car has just been sitting for about 10 months. I detailed it, drove it about 15 miles or so. It needs some work but overall in good shape.
Joined here for the collective wisdom, and I'm going to start a thread in the G35 Sedan V36 2007-2008 section with all my questions hopefully everyone will want to answer

Welcome!

I still remember how excited I was when I purchased my first vehicle. I should have listened to my father and found another vehicle but that 1958 Ford had a 358 cu inch V8 police interceptor engine with a four barrel carburetor in it and I wanted it.
Turned out it was one big POS and I had to get rid of it within 6 months. Long story that I won't go into here.
Since you are not receiving the vehicle from a family member for free, spend the one hour diagnostic fee at your local Infiniti dealer to get a rough idea of any deficiencies that need to be addressed immediately.
Check the date codes on the tires. You don't want to be driving at 70 MPH+ and have a tire fall apart.
You do not want to be driving an unsafe vehicle even if it were free.
Have the brakes and rotors inspected along with the hoses, belts, and the entire exhaust system.
Factory parts and repairs can add up quickly.
I hope you don't have to sit at the far end of the table or the kids table next Thanksgiving if that vehicle turns out the same way my 1958 Ford did?.

Good luck

thanks everyone!
i did an inspection on everything the car is mostly solid.
sadly i might not be buying it though, probably going to get something else. theres too many little things that bother me about this one.
maybe in the end i wont be a G35 driver afterall, but i will be a G35 mechanic, so i hope to contribute to this forum with DIY repairs for common issues.
i'll be fixing the stuff in this particular G35 since its in the family.

I think that you made the right choice.
For those new to the automotive world, whatever skills that you may develop today are not going to be the same skills that will be required in another 10 to 15 years.

Where did all those carburetor rebuilding shops and their technicians go?
