Hi All. New 06 coupe owner and am really interested in getting a new front bumper and having it painted. A few questions about doing that:
1. I called a shop to see if they put them on and paint them and they said no because they can't guarantee fitment. I build mtn bikes and do brakes and oil changes and small fixes on my cars, but never done body work. Is it pretty much expected that you put it on yourself and then take it off again to go get it painted, then reinstall it?
2. if I put on a front bumper with a lip, is it "necessary" aesthetically to get side skirts to match the lower level of the front?
3. are there higher and lower quality kits and if so, what makes them better or worse? Or is it all just whatever you like and none of them fit perfect. You just have to make them work.

Honestly I would just try to find another OEM 2006 coupe front, they look pretty damned good and you know the fitment is perfect.

Plus the front fascia is VERY easy to remove on these vehicles.

Anything aftermarket is going to require significant body work to make it fit properly, there are no "bolt-on and fits" options when it comes to body kits.

 

As much as I like to DIY as much as possible, I will leave real bodywork to professionals. The higher priced / purchased body kits typically were tested on multiple different cars, and will have less $$ in body modifications to make it fit.

Front fascia is pretty hard to screw up. If you have a lip on the front of some kind, its up to you if you want low sideskirts. I like the matching personally, but it's up to you. Try it, you might like it as is.

 

I'm going through the same thing, I have a new Nismo bumper sitting in the garage for months because I'm dreading modifying the fitment.

To me, sideskirts depend on the bumper. Some bumpers are lower and wider than others.
Kuruma Z doesn't really line up well with OEM skirts, but a Nismo is pretty good with front splashguards.

I would stay away from fiberglass, poly bumpers are the way to go.
