Hey everyone. First time G35 owner, copped one with 185xxx mi, few owners, for an relatively steal of a price. Totaling for an overall 5.8/10 car (needs moderate amount of work). My goal is to build a fun but not over the top daily driver. Would love to for the fun of it, possible see a 80+ hp gain on the DE with an tubro kit eventually down the line.
Wanting to first start on major maintenance
  • What should I start with?
  • What do people usually do maintenance wise when buying a used vehicle?
  • What problems should I suspect to happen in this mileage range?
Then after would like to improve handling/suspension, the trans, and finally exterior/interior work.
Any recommendations would help thank you

Looking forward to enjoying the VQ platform!

Nice
color.

I would recommend checking the oil pressure with an in cabin gauge, it’s the ultimate killer of the platform at that mileage and age.

trans will be fine at that power.

Common problems are very well outlined here. Diff bushings, suspension bushings, compression rod ball joints are non-serviceable.

Maybe watch the donut videos on building a 350Z. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a lot of fun on this platform. I’m maybe $3k total into my Vortech coupe engine and suspension rebuild.

the suspension / diff bushings are the biggest impact on drive ability. I could also recommend a poly trans mount but would recommend stock or poly engine mounts. No solid anything.
