Talking WooHoo! Made the plunge and bought a 6MT.

Well I couldn't wait and finally did it. I felt a little buyers remorse but that quickly went away when I got the keys in my hand. It's my first real car that I actually bought and I couldn't be happier. It's used but still new to me. This is also my first manual car but I practiced in a empty parking lot for awhile afterwards. I think I'm decent and get around normal streets now without stalling too much. But does have anybody have some real good tips for driving up hills. Especially from a dead stop while going uphill. This town is pretty hilly and the last thing I want to do is hurt me, anybody behind me, and the car.

Now getting to the parking lot was the tricky part and adventure in itself. Because I haven't really drivin a manual car before, except for a little practice in friends cars everyonce in awhile for like 10 minutes, I was still pretty nervous. So I pull out of the dealership and I'm not even 10 seconds away when some Honda Accord thats "hooked" up starts following me. I saw him on a side street and thought it looked pretty decent but didn't really care. Next thing I know the dude is on my ***. So on top of trying not to ruin my new purchase, trying to follow someone home, and the damn hills that I'm trying to avoid; I got this punk trying to mess with me. I mean cmon whats the deal. He should have noticed after seeing my glorious shifting from 1st to 2nd that I was a newbie. So lucky me I lose the person I'm following at a redlight, of course on a hill, and that punk is really on my ***. Knowing that its going to be too easy to fall back into him I step on the gas harder up to 2000rpm and let the clutch fly. It was so jerky everyone would have cringed, but I figure thats my best option with my lack of experience and lack of desire for an accident. The dude still was on my *** and I said screw it and pulled the grandma, but responsible, move and drove slower till he got frustrated and just passed me. For some odd reason I don't think this is going to be the first time I will encounter people like this.

I mean seriously whats the point? Ok I drive a nice car and you put money into your car to make it look nicer/ricer. I'm not gonna hate too much because I admit the car was kinda clean and wasn't an eyesore. But I don't see the point in trying to race me. It may have had an H22 but I saw no turbo or SC, so why try. I'm pretty sure any other competent driver could have taken him, hell I think I could have. But gas is getting pretty expensive and I already spent enough in one day on this car. Screw those people. Sorry wanted to vent for a little bit so I can go back to enjoying my new toy.

Congrats on the purchase! Just feather the throttle a lil as you slowly release the clutch, and I would put on 2nd instead of 1st. 1st gear is just toooo short on the G. Hope that helps. BTW you handle that jacko maturely, props Enjoy the car and drive safe

on a real steep hill, you can set the handbrake, have it in first, and wait to feel the clutch bite and the power get to the wheels before releasing the handbrake. This way you dont roll back at all. Once you get good, you ownt need to do this, but I still do occasionally in a big city when some bonehead is like 3 inches behind me at a stoplight on a steep hill. some people...

Congrats on your purchase! Forget those wannabe punks - they're just jealous of your sweet ride.

Thanks for the welcomes and the advice. Unfortunately people probably will assume I am a young punk because I'm 24 and have rims on nice car. No disrespecting a 1997 Accord but please don't waste my time. If you did put all that money into your car to make it faster than a sport luxury coupe, why don't you put that money into something nicer? I admit it was kind of pricey for me and it would have been smarter for me to get a beater first, but why settle? The money I would have wasted turned out to be a pretty good downpayment for something I really enjoy. At least for now anyways, knock on wood.

I've heard about the handbrake on the hill thing, but was told once I started moving to release the handbrake. Wouldn't that cause some kind of damage or at least premature wear?
