Most people pay with credit cards so how are you going to tip after you charge $50 on your credit card?
And not only do gas stations make mad money, but they are usually family owned businesses most of the time. The people who work there already get paid decent enough.

I have never tipped and i leap out of my car as fast as I can to grab the nozzle. One of the few times that the guy was waiting at the pump and already had the nozzle in his hand took a nice chip out of my paint when he slammed it into the side of my car! When i started yelling he played the I don't speak English routine on me.

I avoid buying gas in NJ at all cost, eventhough gas prices there is soooo much cheaper than PA. I don't care how 'careful' they are, it's just not worth it. It's better to pump it yourself. Besides, do you check if they are putting in the right gas?

Give me back 1.15 a gal and I will tip. I have a habit of going to a local mobil aka lukoil and I pay like 3.17 a gal. Its about an extra.10 per gal then anywhere else. have him take the tip out of that

I've tipped a few times.. but I do like that I don't have to pump my own gas. I hate the way gas smells and don't want it on my hands. I'd rather let the attendants do it.

I live in NY and most places pump it 4 u, i would rather do it myself. Theres nothin worse then gettin outa your car after leaving the gas station and seeing a line of gas running down the side of your car

I'm from NY and why should I tip if I don't have a choice of pumping my own gas? What is the point of saving gas in NJ if i have to add the cost of the Tip. In NY there is an option for Full Service and they are more expensive, if i decide to use it then it's my choice to have someone serve me so it is also customary to give a tip.

Don't forget, in NY, some of the more ghetto stations also have the bums who come and fill your tank for you at a self serve station. aren't they worth tipping?
